Political commentator Matt Walsh has reacted to Christa Pike’s attorney’s comments, who said that she may never recover after a failed execution attempt.

Walsh, who strongly opposed the halt in Pike’s execution, took to X and wrote:

“The girl she butchered, tortured, and beat to death also will not recover.”

Walsh has repeatedly spoken against the calls for clemency for Pike. He also criticized Pike for complaining about solitary confinement, pointing out her history of violence.

Pike is a 50-year-old woman on death row in Tennessee. In January 1995, at the age of 18, she and her then-boyfriend, Tadaryl Shipp, tortured and murdered 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer, a fellow Job Corps student in Knoxville.

Pike was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death in 1996. On September 30, 2026, she survived a botched lethal injection attempt involving two doses of pentobarbital and was hospitalized in critical condition. As of now, she is unconscious and on a ventilator in critical condition at a hospital.

Matt Walsh hits back after attorney claims Christa Pike ‘may never recover’ from botched execution

Christa Pike was set to become the first woman executed in Tennessee in more than 200 years but she survived a botched lethal injection attempt.

According to a BBC report, on September 30, 2026, Tennessee attempted to execute Pike through a lethal injection at the Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville. She was reportedly given two doses of the chemical pentobarbital and the curtain in the witness room was closed twice, as per the report. Witnesses reported her breathing, snoring, and showing signs of consciousness during the procedure.

Reports stated that Christa Pike was resuscitated and transferred to a hospital where she received “lifesaving medical care,” as per her attorneys. A report in WSMV4 stated, Tennessee's execution protocol outlines that a second dose of pentobarbital is to be given if the inmate is not deceased after five minutes. But the official guidelines do not outline what happens if the subject remains alive after the second dose.

One of Christa Pike’s attorneys, Stephen Ferrell, told CNN:

“We don’t know right now, and we may never know, what sort of torture she endured during that process.”

He added that she remains “critically ill” and that they “don’t really know the prognosis yet and may not know for several days.” Ferrell noted:

“I think one of the main things that will leave this up in the air for a while is the fact that we don’t know what the prognosis is — as in, the long-term prognosis. If she recovers — she may not fully recover.”

In response to the attorney's comments, Matt Walsh took to his official X account, calling out the attorney and highlighting that “the girl she butchered” would also not “recover” since she is dead. Walsh has also criticized the state of Tennessee and its governor following the failed execution of Christa Pike.

In response to the botched procedure, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee halted the state's remaining executions for the year and ordered an independent third-party review.

In his video, Walsh argued that the justice system took far too long to carry out the execution (Pike is now 50), stating that the state should have carried out the sentence decades ago instead of allowing endless delays.

During an episode titled Was Christa Pike's Execution Sabotaged? on The Matt Walsh Show, he looked at the details of the failed lethal injection and questioned how the state handled the medical complications and the governor's pause.

Christa Pike’s original criminal trial ended nearly 30 years ago. But her legal and administrative case remains active following a botched execution attempt. She remains hospitalized in critical condition.
