"Sick of gritty Batman" - Fans react as Robert Pattinson downplays the possibility of being DCU's Caped Crusader

Robert Pattinson surprisingly spoke about The Batman: Part II twice this week. First, he addressed the upcoming Elseworlds DC project in a Collider interview. The second time, he spoke about the movie in another interview, this time with LADbible. In this specific interview, he addressed the possibility of being the DCU Caped Crusader as well.

For those who don't know, the DCU is the mainline DC continuity on the big screen which consists of Superman. The DC Universe version of The Dark Knight remains uncast as of now. This is why fans continue speculating that Pattinson's Batman would share screen space with David Corenswet's Superman.

However, it would be "tough" for Reeves' version of The Dark Knight to share the screen with the DCU Superman.

What did Robert Pattinson say about being the DCU Batman?

Pattinson sat down for an interview with LADbible to promote his new movie, Primetime. The conversation predictably shifted to the actor's DC role. When asked about the possibility of him being the DCU Batman, Pattinson responded:

“I think it would be kind of tough to have this version of Bruce outside of that world. It's one of the only characters I guess because of the length of the shoots but also it's such a specific kind of [style], the tone of it gets inside you."

Pattinson's words have some fans hoping that the DCU Caped Crusader embraces more comic book elements. A Reddit fan called "batbugz" expressed a similar sentiment, saying,

"Good I don't want it anyway no offense. I'm sick of gritty batman. I want weird s**t in batman movies again".

Another fan, "swift_icarus", went on to say that they liked the 2022 Matt Reeves movie, but wanted more fantastical elements of the comics:

Therefore, chances are high that we are getting a more fantastical version of The Dark Knight in Peter Safran and James Gunn's DCU. Creature Commandos already confirmed that we are getting a more fantastical and comic-based Caped Crusader, as the sixth episode has a small cameo by Gotham's protector. In that episode, we see The Dark Knight bringing down Doctor Phosphorus's criminal empire.

Moreover, the upcoming DCU project hints at the tone we can expect from The Dark Knight's solo film.

Clayface further confirms that we can expect a more fantastical Caped Crusader:

Clayface, which releases this October, will introduce fans to this version of Gotham. While an appearance from the Caped Crusader has not been confirmed, many fans continue to hope that we will meet this universe's version of Bruce Wayne in the solo villain movie. One Reddit fan, Bomb_Ghostie, even predicted that it might be a "mid/end credit cut scene".

The trailers have hinted that we will see the shape-shifting villain transform into the infamous giant clay form, which has many fans convinced that Gunn and Safran will give us a Caped Crusader who has some experience in fighting fantastical opponents despite being a human. The official synopsis of the film reads as:

"Matt Hagen’s meteoric rise from Gotham street kid to Hollywood leading man is tragically cut short when a local crime boss’s actions leave him horribly disfigured. Abandoned by his team and with nothing left, Matt seeks out a cutting edge treatment that miraculously returns him to his former self… but also unexpectedly affects his grip on reality, spiraling him down a destructive path of all-consuming revenge."
