Ryan Coogler's Michael B. Jordan-starrer period horror film Sinners continues to win big this Awards season with its latest victories at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards. The prestigious music awards, which honour the best recordings, compositions and artists, took place on February 1 in Los Angeles, California and marked two major wins for Coogler's movie.

The supernatural horror movie bagged Grammys for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media and Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media, bringing a much-needed spotlight to the blues musicians featured on the soundtrack.

Grammy-winning Swedish musician, composer and songwriter Ludwig Göransson, who composed the original score for Sinners, picked up his sixth Grammy win, with a heartfelt acceptance speech honoring the blues musician who brought the film's narrative to life.

More on this in our story.

Ryan Coogler's Sinners wins big at the Grammy 2026

It was a historic win for the Mid-South blues musicians as Sinners bagged two Grammy Awards at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards. Memphis Grammy-winning producer and engineer Lawrence “Boo” Mitchell and guitarist Eric Gales practically jumped with excitement when the film was announced as the winner for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media.

Accepting this well-deserved honour, Mitchell honoured Sinners' original soundtrack composer Ludwig Gorinson in his acceptance speech:

“Big shout out to Ludwig Gorinson for tying the blues in with the modern music and bringing it forward to the future. Big shout out to Memphis, Mississippi, Louisiana, all the blues artists.”

After composing himself, Gales added:

“I’m just a little old cat from Memphis, Tennessee, mane, and it was a huge honor for Ludwig to call me, man, and say, I want you to be a part of this record. And 90% of the guitar playing I did made this record.”

Following Sinners' first win, Composer Ludwig Göransson arrived just in time to collect his second award of the night, for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media. While accepting the award, which marked Göransson's fifth win in a similar category, he thanked the blues and Memphis musicians, whose beautifully haunting music helped define the Sinners soundtrack and bring its narrative to life.

More about the Sinners soundtrack

As Ryan Coogler's horror period film continues to make waves in the awards circuit, its recent Grammy win has brought a much-needed spotlight to its impressive soundtrack, a treat for all country music lovers. The movie's official soundtrack features two albums: the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, which features songs performed by blues musicians and the cast and the Original Motion Picture, the movie's original soundtrack composed by Ludwig Göransson, Coogler's frequent collaborator.

While the movie's 1930's setting was challenging for both Coogler and Göransson, they pivoted to the blues musician for inspiration. As recalled by the Swedish composer in many interviews, much inspiration for the Sinners soundtrack came from his father, who was a blues aficionado. Coogler and Göransson spent hours listening to the latter's father's recordings, which eventually served as the major inspiration for the movie's soundtrack.
