Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse update explains the long delay

Speaking with Empire Online, the writers and producers of Spider-Verse, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, revealed that they are currently working hard on the film and even recently visited the IMAX headquarters to test how the footage looks on the big screen and to check if everything is exactly like how they wanted it right before release.
They further revealed spending time in the editing room with the other members of the team, adding that it's progressing in the right direction.
While it's a huge update for the fans, for those wondering why the film got delayed, the producer also talked about the challenges of making the film, saying that it requires doing things that haven't been done before.
In another interview with io9, held earlier this year in February, Miller said that they put the most pressure on themselves to make sure that they outdo themselves every time and give the viewers an experience of watching something that they haven't seen or lived before. He added that their main motivation behind creating Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is to create a film that can match the quality and impact of the previous two films.
Explaining why the film is taking longer than expected, Miller explained that the team had to rethink and reshape parts of the film while adding new changes, which slowed down the process, resulting in a delay.
On a positive note, fans have reason to be excited, as the producers revealed that the film is coming together well. Speaking to Empire Online, Phil Lord explained the creative process of the team, saying that the team pays close attention to minute details in the film. Calling it a "fun" experience, he said:
"So you just sit around, marvel at all these brilliant artists, and then we get to work with these great filmmakers, sit in a room all day, and just try to make everything incrementally better together."
The Academy winners Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are famous for The Lego Movie, Project Hail Mary, Spider-Noir, and The Sheep Detectives. The duo have multiple collaborative projects currently in work, including Murder She Wrote, the Untitled Project Hail Mary sequel, Last Human, Silk, and 48 Hours in Vegas.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is expected to release on July 18, 2027, in the United States, with Sony Pictures handling its distribution. As of now, the official trailer for the movie has not been released.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will follow Miles Morales, who gets stuck in another universe and struggles to go back to his home. It will be interesting to see how he will save his family and the challenges he will come across with the Spider Society and his own multiversal variant against him.
