Renowned author Stephen King is calling out Donald Trump for the rising fuel prices in the United States. In a social media post on Sunday, the “King of Horror” wrote:

“I just paid $5.32/gallon for hi-test this morning... and I can afford it. Lots of folks can't. Donald Trump, you can take your war and stuff it up your fat and leaky a**.”

Last month, at the Republican Midterm National Convention, Trump, 80, said about the rising prices of gas and oil:

“You have a little higher… It’s a very inexpensive price to pay for what we’ve done. Remember that it’s a little more. It’s even if it was, frankly, even if it was a lot more, but that’s gonna come tumbling down. That’s gonna be like a rocket ship in reverse… hopefully toward the end of the war.”

Earlier this month, Trump threatened to ban diesel exports to other G7 countries, including the UK, Canada, Germany, Italy, France, and Japan. In response, the other six announced a “substantial release” of oil and diesel, aka 100 million barrels, to help with the rising fuel prices in the USA.

The G7 also announced that there will not be “export restrictions on energy and energy products” between the member countries, and the new measure will be implemented within 20 days. The 100 million barrels are expected to last for four months.

“Europe has just agreed to release a massive amount of their heavily stocked Diesel Oil. The process will begin immediately,” Trump posted on Truth Social last week.

Later, during a White House briefing, Trump said the ban was “never really on the table” and appreciated what Europe did as a “great thing.”

“Europe has a lot of diesel and they're going to be making a major world contribution - and so are we. And we're not going to be doing the export ban; we're going to be doing what we're supposed to do,” the POTUS added.

Stephen King has been a longtime vocal critic of Trump

In August 2025, Stephen King sat down for an interview with The Guardian and said that the end of the Trumpian era should be with “impeachment.”

“I think it would be impeachment – which, in my view, would be a good ending. I would love to see him retired, let’s put it that way. The bad ending would be that he gets a third term and takes things over completely. It’s a horror story either way. Trump is a horror story, isn’t he?” King, 79, stated.

In a 2018 appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Stephen King said of Trump:

“Now we have got a President who has blocked me on Twitter, except the court says he can’t block anybody… Now the question is: Do I follow him? I don’t think so… He blocked me eight or nine months ago. It’s been a long time… I blocked him from seeing my next movie, ‘It.’ So, no balloons for Donald Trump.”

During the chat with Stephen Colbert, the Shining author also compared Trump to two villains from his stories, including Greg Stillson from The Dead Zone and James “Big Jim” Rennie from Under the Dome. King also mocked Trump as the “bizarro President” in a reference to the Superman comics he read as a kid.

In 2016, ahead of that year’s presidential election, Stephen King compared Trump’s speeches to “listening to a piano fall down the stairs” and claimed it was “all dissonance and no music.” He continued:

“Note the way that Donald Trump falls back on saying this-and-such is going to be huge or this-and-such is beautiful. Any writer or reader worth his salt will say those words by themselves mean absolutely nothing. Trump makes me wince not as a Democrat, which I am, but as a writer and reader… God, I’m going to miss Obama… There was poetry, always music, in what he said.”

Over the years, Stephen King has feuded with Donald Trump on X. Once, he wrote:

“Donald Trump is actually Cthulhu. The absurd hairdo isn’t absurd at all. It hides the tentacles.”

In another tweet, he wrote:

“The most basic fact about Donald Trump: If brains were black powder, the guy couldn't blow his nose.”

One of his 2025 tweets includes:

“Deep down in his heart, I believe Trump knows he’s an incompetent a**hole… Trump is like a spoiled child. When he doesn’t get his way, he throws a tantrum.”

In 2022, Stephen King told The Sunday Times:

“I happen to think that Trump was a horrible president and is a horrible person. I think he actually engaged in criminal behavior and certainly, I felt that he was a sociopath who tried to overturn the American democracy not out of any political wish of his own but because he could not admit that he had lost.”

President Trump has yet to respond to Stephen King’s latest criticism regarding rising fuel prices.
