Street Fighter first look reveals Ryu and Ken’s master Gouken in the highly anticipated movie

Street Fighter fans are getting a closer look at one of the franchise's most important figures: Ryu and Ken's master, Gouken. DiscussingFilm has shared an exclusive featurette and images introducing Gouken, best known for training two of Street Fighter's biggest names, Ken and Ryu. He is also the older brother of Akuma.

While the recent first look shows Gouken with Ryu and Ken on screen, as of now, the production hasn't revealed who will be playing the role of Gouken in the upcoming Street Fighter movie.

Street Fighter reveals first look at Gouken in the upcoming movie

In the exclusive featurette shared by DiscussingFilm and Legendary on X (formerly Twitter), viewers get a look at the Street Fighter gameplay as it opens with the familiar Round 1, Fight! sound, as director Kitao Sakurai (famous for Butterfly and Beef) says that no one can think of Street Fighter without Ken and Ryu.

Noah Centineo, who plays Ken, reveals that Ken and Ryu went way back together when they were training partners and friends for a very long time. At thirteen seconds into the video, shared by Legendary and DiscussingFilm on X, viewers can see a photo with Ryu and Ken sitting together with Gouken standing behind them, giving the first look at the master martial artist.

This marks the first look at Gouken, who is expected to play a role in the movie. Andrew Koji, who plays Ryu, says Ken and Ryu were like brothers, but an event later pulled them apart. Centineo gives more details about the event, saying that Ken was once a legendary fighter, but things have changed. Additionally, he is even called a sideshow in the movie.

On the other hand, Ryu is also living a very different life, living off the grid and not joining any tournaments. However, his attitude seems to change after he learns that Ken is in danger. Their reunion doesn't go as smoothly as expected, as Ken throws a punch at Ryu when they meet, which he misses as Ryu simply calls him "still reckless."

Toward the end of the video, director Kitao Sakurai explains that the relationship between Ken and Ryu is a big part of who they are. That also raises one of the movie's biggest questions: after everything that happened between them, can the two rebuild their brotherhood, or will they remain as strangers?

The cast of Street Fighter includes Noah Centineo, Andrew Schulz, Andrew Koji, Alexander Volkanovski, Cody Rhodes, Callina Liang, Curtis Jackson, Joe "Roman Reigns" Anoai, Jason Momoa, Hirooki Goto, David Dastmalchian, Eric André, Olivier Richters, Orville Peck, Vidyut Jammwal, Rayna Vallandingham, Mel Jarnson, and Kyle Mooney.

The trailer for Street Fighter was released earlier this month on September 1, giving fans a new look at the movie and its characters. It also teases Ryu and Ken's reunion as they prepare for the World Warrior Tournament.

Paramount confirmed last September that the movie was filmed for IMAX. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on October 16, 2026.
