Godzilla Minus Zero is performing impressively. As the movie continues to dominate the box office, fans are wondering if the movie has a post-credit scene or not. For those who don't know, for eighteen years, films have been using the post-credit scenes to tease a sequel or a different movie from the same cinematic universe. The most recent Japanese Godzilla movie does something unique with its post-credit stinger. It does not have a post-credit scene, but that doesn't mean that there is no hint for what you can expect from the franchise going forward. Even if filmmaker Takashi Yamazaki were to not return to direct the Godzilla Minus Zero follow-up, the franchise could continue in theory.Godzilla Minus Zero ending explained: What happens in the post-credit scene? View this post on Instagram Instagram PostThe movie ends with Godzilla defeating King Ghidorah and returning to the ocean peacefully. Kanji Murakami burns his research notes so that the military can't weaponize his Resonance Wave technology. Murakami also attempts to go underground, but he is captured by the US military. Therefore, the movie ends with a setup for a sequel. For the post-credit stinger, it is not a scene but rather an audio clip of Godzilla. When the credits are finished rolling, we hear Godzilla start stomping, and then we hear the kaiju roar. Minus Zero ends with the reminder that the iconic kaiju is still out there as he is under the sea. Thus, the movie ends with the door open for the third movie. Will there be a third movie? View this post on Instagram Instagram PostAs of now, director Takashi Yamazaki has been uncertain if the third movie will happen or not. In an interview with TIME this week, Yamazaki joked that the only problem with the third movie would be the title, as the first movie was called Godzilla Minus One, and the second is titled Godzilla Minus Zero.Yamazaki was asked about the possibility of the third movie again in The Hollywood Reporter (THR) interview, which was published on Thursday. The THR reporter asked the filmmaker if he will ever return to the kaiju franchise. Takashi Yamazaki's answer to the question was:"I would say it’s about fifty-fifty at this point. I’m quite satisfied and happy with the current ending we have. It entrusts the interpretation to the audience in terms of how they want to receive it and what they want to walk out of theaters with. That being said, if Godzilla Minus Zero is my last Godzilla film, that would make me a bit sad."The Japanese director added:"I do have other films lined up, starting with Grandgear and a few others, but at some point in my career, I would love to revisit Godzilla and see how we can expand this world."Thus, like the movie's open ending, Yamazaki's future with the iconic film franchise itself is open-ended. It seems that his time in the Godzilla franchise was pleasant enough for him to consider returning, but it could be a while before we will get the third movie.Godzilla Minus Zero is playing in both standard and IMAX theaters across the US.
