Evil Dead Burn is the sixth installment in the popular Evil Dead film series and a standalone sequel to Evil Dead and Evil Dead Rise. The upcoming supernatural horror film is directed and co-written by French filmmaker Sébastien Vaniček (best known for directing the horror film Infested) and Florent Bernard.

The official synopsis for the movie reads as follows:

Following the death of her husband, Alice and her late husband’s family come together at a secluded house. The gathering becomes a "family reunion from hell" as members gradually turn into Deadites.

Rumors circulated that Evil Dead Burn most brutal sequence had been heavily cut from the final film, leaving horror fans worried that one of the franchise's most brutal sequences had been toned down.

But according to Sébastien Vaniček, the sequence wasn't removed altogether but just "trimmed a little" during the editing process to improve the film's pacing and secure an R rating.

Ahead of his film's release, Sébastien Vaniček took to social media to address fan questions about the highly-anticipated Evil Dead entry. One seasoned fan of the franchise raised concerns about rumours circulating that a very brutal scene was cut from the theatrical release. Since editing brutal or extremely horrific scenes is common in the film industry, especially the horror genre, the fan expressed concern about the viewing experience and wondered whether the unedited version would be included in an unrated or director's cut.

However, putting an end to all the concerns, the Evil Dead Burn director replied:

''It's not cut, it's just trimmed a little. I didn't cut anything completely from my director's cut because I simply didn't want that to happen.''

Sébastien Vaniček went on to explain that one of the Evil Dead Burn scenes was a bit tricky for the censors and he wanted to avoid an NC-17 label. To secure an R rating, the filmmakers 'twisted' and 'trimmed' the scene a bit, likely avoiding close-ups and other gory details. The French filmmaker assured the fans that the trimmed version is no less violent or brutal and will certainly satisfy moviegoers, who expect relentless gore in the upcoming film.

Additionally, Sébastien Vaniček explained that the slight trim was necessary to improve Evil Dead Burn's pacing, giving audiences a brief respite amid the relentless violence. The theatrical release will feature a slightly trimmed version but it will not change the viewing experience. Check out the filmmaker's comments:

''Without the trim it was just pure brutality and violence without break for like, a really long time...''

Souheila Yacoub is best known for her work in Denis Villeneuve's space-opera film Dune: Part Two, Canal+'s 2019 miniseries Savages and Cédric Kahn's 2023 French drama film Making Of.
