The Inbetweeners’ iconic quartet reunites as third movie gets underway

The lads from Rudge Park Comprehensive reunite as The Inbetweeners 3 gets underway on Netflix.

Netflix has unveiled the first official look at Will McKenzie (Simon Bird), Jay Cartwright (James Buckley), Neil Sutherland (Blake Harrison) and Simon Cooper (Joe Thomas) as the iconic quartet from E4’s 2008 coming-of-age sitcom reunites for a third movie.

The Inbetweeners, which originally ran for three seasons between 2008 and 2010, followed the misadventures of four suburban teenagers at the fictional Rudge Park Comprehensive, as they navigated school life, male bonding, lad culture and adolescent sexuality. The sitcom also led to two spin-off feature films in 2011 and 2014.

After more than a decade, the original cast is back in The Inbetweeners 3, which has officially begun production on Netflix.

The 40-second footage, released by Netflix, is enough to fill you with nostalgia about the golden era of British sitcoms. The Inbetweeners 3 announcement follows the iconic quartet as they get into the famous 1996 Fiat Cinquecento Hawaii car from the sophomore season, still sporting the 'Honk if You Want a Blowj*b' sticker and missing a door. After some struggle, the lads manage to begin their journey. The number 3 appears on the rear window, signaling the arrival of the third film.

The third movie in the hit franchise was announced recently, with original creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris set to return to write and direct. While the plot and additional cast details for The Inbetweeners 3 are being kept under wraps for now, the duo announced the project as:

“It’s been super-fun hanging out with our friends again, and we’re going to work hard every week to ensure there are no problemos making this new film for humans."

While the sitcom initially received a lukewarm reaction, it is now considered a classic with a cult following. The series set ratings records for the broadcaster and is now considered one of the most successful British sitcoms of the 21st century. After its original three-season run, the franchise expanded with two feature films, which recreated its magic on the big screen.

The first movie recorded the biggest opening weekend for a U.K. comedy in 2011. Its sequel surpassed the record of its predecessor for the highest gross on the opening day of a comedy in the UK and became the highest-grossing British film in the domestic market in 2014. After 12 years, the original lads will be back for a third film on Netflix.

The Inbetweeners 3 will be produced by Claire Jones, Banijay’s Patrick Holland and Fudge Park Production’s Mark Lesbirel. Caroline Levy, Phil Gilbert, Suzanne Knight, Tom Jordan, Caroline Leddy, Farhana Bhula (for Film4), Morris and Beesly will serve as executive producers on the project.
