Amazon Prime Video has unveiled the official trailer for The Love Hypothesis, its upcoming romantic movie adapted from Ali Hazelwood's 2021 book, which has sold over 750,000 copies worldwide, and fans can't keep calm.

The first official trailer for The Love Hypothesis follows Olive Smith (Lili Reinhart), a third-year biology PhD student at Stanford University, who impulsively kisses intimidating professor Dr. Adam Carlsen (Tom Bateman) after she discovers that her best friend Anh has fallen for her crush Jeremy. Olive’s actions are meant to suggest that she has moved on, encouraging Anh to pursue a romance with Jeremy.

What starts as 'fake dating' quickly turns into a genuine friendship and romance for Olive & Adam. Fans are already gushing over Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman's chemistry, with one Reddit user praising the adaptation as:

''Okay. That’s adorable. It looks like they did a great job.''

Booktok fans are certainly having a busy year, with back-to-back adaptations of popular books, namely Heated Rivalry, Off Campus and Every Year After. While some adaptations were hits and are already gearing up for their sophomore seasons, others were misses and failed to win readers over. Judging by the early fan reactions to the Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman-starring movie, Prime Video's upcoming project falls into the first category and is already on its way to becoming another breakout hit for the platform.

Ever since Prime Video announced its adaptation of The Love Hypothesis starring Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman, Ali Hazelwood’s readers have been eagerly waiting, given the novel’s immense popularity. But the wait is almost over and the trailer has certainly exceeded readers' expectations.

Here are some fan reactions to The Love Hypothesis' first look:

''The trailer has exceeded my (admittedly low) expectations because Heated Rivalry aside, there haven’t been a ton of really well done adaptations.'' wrote one user

Fans are especially appreciative of the movie's casting, saying Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman are perfect in their respective roles. In addition to the fake dating trope, Hazelwood's book also tackles the grumpy x sunshine trope, which is on full display in the first trailer. While Reinhart's Olive is bubbly and determined to help her friend woo her ex-crush, the ever-intimidating Adam sees their fake dating as an opportunity to prove he is not a ''flight risk'' to Stanford and convince them to renew his grant.

Fans praised The Love Hypothesis' casting on Reddit:

''I like the casting. Both leads are charismatic and charming.'' wrote one user
''I'm really excited for this one as this is my favorite Ali Hazelwood book! I'm also happy with the casting. Everything looks great so far, I can't wait for the movie to be released.'' another user agreed

It’s certainly impressive that Prime Video’s adaptation is winning over even some readers who weren’t fans of Hazelwood’s original book:

''I gave this book like 2 stars but the movie looks incredible?? And I even recognize some scenes from the book and it makes me excited??? I'm surprised at myself tbh...'' wrote another user

In addition to Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman, the movie stars Rachel Marsh as Anh, Jaboukie Young-White as Malcolm, Nicholas Duvernay as Jeremy and Arty Froushan as Tom.

The Love Hypothesis will be released on Prime Video on September 23.
