The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and his young apprentice Grogu.

Martin Scorsese has joined The Mandalorian and Grogu in a voice role. He is lending his voice to the character of an Ardennian. They are a four-armed species that are covered in fur and run a store. The character briefly features in the recently released trailer. Scorsese has previously voiced a pufferfish in the 2004 animated film Shark Tales.

The Mandalorian and Grogu is produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni and Ian Bryce. It's cast members include,

  • Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin / The Mandalorian
  • Sigourney Weaver as Ward
  • Jonny Coyne as an Imperial Warlord
  • Steve Blum as Garazeb Orrelios
  • Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt

The film is shot by David Klein, while Rachel Goodlett Katz is the editor. Ludwig Göransson has composed the music. In a Polygon interview, Favreau spoke about the difference between making the film and the television series.

"With Star Wars, we have to execute at that tech level. So the challenge becomes: Okay, we presented a cinematic experience on the small screen. We have to up our game now to the movie theater. That means taller aspect ratios for IMAX, building sets that take full advantage of that, making the visual effects of the quality and caliber that we have to notch everything up. And then the storytelling as well."

He added,

"That adventure has to fill up the screen and has to be something, at this moment in time, when so much is competing for attention, that you're going to stop what you're doing, and you're going to go to a movie theater, and you're going to sit down in that movie theater, and you're not going to be able to pause it, and you're not going to be able to eat the food out of your refrigerator. You have to have such a good experience that you say, 'This is worth my time. Let's go again. I want to bring you. You should go see it.'"

Favreau was originally planning to work on the fourth season of The Mandalorian but it was halted due to the 2023 Hollywood strike. Lucasfilm then changed the plan and decided to make a film over the fourth season.

The Mandalorian and Grogu will be released on May 22, 2026 by Walt Disney Studios.
