While the three compartments do serve the same function as the teeth in the usual Punisher skull logo. But the version of the skull logo in Spider-Man: Brand New Day is different than the usual painted version. this is a departure from what we saw in other Punisher projects. It should be noted that the first teaser was officially released only in March, but it seems that the logo would be different in the movie. It seems that fans noticed the different logo through a leak and noticed the influence of artist Mitch Gerad's 2014 redesign. This week it became clear why the Spider-Man: Brand New Day team redesigned The Punisher skull logo so that the movie could be released in China. The Chinese censorship laws don't permit skull imagery in movies. Therefore, the production team opted to make this change to sneak the iconic comic book skull imagery into the movie without making it explicit. The previous live-action Wall-Crawler movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home, did not release in China because the climax was entirely set at the Statue of Liberty. Chinese censorship laws dictated that the makers either remove the statue or alter it digitally, something that producers didn't do.However, this time the makers opted for a Chinese release by slightly altering The Punisher's skull in Brand New Day, making a huge difference for the movie.Brand New Day is pulling in impressive numbers in China: View this post on Instagram Instagram PostThis week it was reported that Brand New Day reached the top spot at the Chinese box office, an impressive feat for a Hollywood blockbuster there.
