The unanswered question haunting the Charlie Kirk murder case

When Charlie Kirk was killed on September 10, 2025, everyone assumed it was a political assassination. Kirk was known for his conservative political views and his alignment with President Donald Trump. Thus, many believed he had been targeted due to his political views.

While Tyler James Robinson has been arrested for being the shooter, he has pleaded not guilty and awaits trial. We now know that Robinson is allegedly the one who killed Charlie Kirk, but even if he is proven to be guilty, we still won't know why.

Why we might never know why Charlie Kirk was killed

Charlie Kirk was answering questions from the crowd at Utah Valley University, Orem, Utah, on September 10, 2025, when he was shot in the neck by a sniper. Almost anyone who had heard of Kirk's death thought he was killed by someone who did not share the same political views as him and was angry enough to commit murder.

The scary part is that so far there is no evidence to show that Tyler James Robinson, who has been arrested for allegedly killing Charlie Kirk, killed him for political reasons. Right after Charlie Kirk was pronounced dead, the right-wing supporters claimed that he was killed by someone left-leaning, who couldn't stand Kirk and his political views.

On the other hand, left-wing supporters like Jimmy Kimmel claimed that MAGA was

"desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them."

Somehow, neither side has been proved to be correct so far. Investigation and evidence regarding the case shows that Tyler Robinson did not support either right or left politics. In fact, as the Daily Mail reports, voter registration records revealed that Robinson wasn't affiliated with the Republican or the Democratic party.

He had, in fact, never cast a formal vote in his life. While Robinson's voter registration shows no party affiliation, prosecutors are arguing that he had a political motive, citing texts where he allegedly expressed 'hate' for Charlie Kirk.

There has been almost no evidence found of him supporting any political ideology or movement. Robinson's family and partner have also stated that he wasn't really interested in politics. That means that if he did in fact kill Kirk, his reasons were entirely personal and perhaps not political in nature.

A Mauser .30-06 caliber bolt-action rifle was found near the scene, which is believed to be the murder weapon. According to the Daily Mail, evidence has been found that the bullet casings from the rifle had engravings that were more personal in nature than political. Most of them were in-game lingo except one.

One of the casings had the engraving:

"Up arrow, right arrow, and three down arrow symbols"

This correlates with the moves a player makes on a controller to send off bombs in a specific video game. Another casing had the engraving:

'Notices bulges OwO what's this?"

This one again was a personal one, although it is unclear what it means. One engraving, however, reads:

"Hey fascist! Catch!"

This one does sound like something a leftist would say, and does point towards a political motive. However, since no concrete evidence of Robinson's political views has been found, why he shot Kirk is yet to be revealed. Speculation suggests that Robinson might have targeted Charlie Kirk for his anti-transgender views because Robinson's partner, Lance Twiggs, is trans.

However, there is still no proof of that. Investigation into the case revealed that Robinson had never even talked about Kirk to anyone, let alone talk about killing him. Thus, there are two final probable causes as to why he might have committed the murder: to make a statement or to get attention.

He could have been just another man who did not have a fulfilling life and was looking to do something big, something that would bring him attention. Killing a famous political activist is one sure way of getting attention. But if this is proven to be true, we would have to face a much more disturbing reality: that there are individuals out there who will commit heinous crimes for attention or to make a statement, and one can never see it coming.

Tyler Robinson is facing the charges of aggravated murder and is yet to be proven guilty. He is scheduled to face a pretrial conference in October 2026, with a trial date yet to be set. Stay tuned for more updates.
