Democratic Senator John Fetterman made a surprise virtual appearance at the Republican Midterm Convention in his home state of Pennsylvania on Wednesday and extended his support for his “great friend” and Republican Senator Dave McCormick and President Trump’s effort to “defend the steel way of life.”TV/radio host and political commentator Stephen A Smith appeared on his SiriusXM show, Straight Shooter, and said it was “not a good look” by Fetterman.Sharing his 5-minute, 43-second clip on X, Smith wrote in the caption disapproving John's appearance:“He better be getting something out of this for the state of Pennsylvania… otherwise this is not a good look by John Fetterman!”Stephen said that while it was nice of John to be “looking out for the citizens in the steel industry”, all he ever seems to be doing is “agreeing with the Republicans.”“That’s a problem… That’s a bit much,” he added.Stephen A Smith clarified that as an independent, he would also meet with Trump and explain “where I stand, how I felt, and why.” However, he would then “walk away” with his “own conclusion” and move on with his life and focus on his job.He reiterated that it made “no sense” and was “not a good look” for John Fetterman to “kiss” Trump’s a** as a Democratic Senator of the state, unless he got something out of it for Pennsylvania.“Otherwise, you look like a d*mn fool… You can negotiate… talk with the President as a Senator without having to do all that. I’m always going to reject the extremes and socialism and that anti-American way of life. Dave McCormick is the kind of senator who gets the job done, and he’s going to fight for Pennsylvania. I am proud to count him as my friend,” Fetterman, 57, stated.Standing in the backdrop of the U.S. Steel Mill, the Pennsylvania lawmaker said he would “work together” with President Trump to defend the Steel Valley. John Fetterman then introduced McCormick:“I have this opportunity to introduce this great American, a great senator, and yes, he's in a different party, but I'm proud to count him as my great friend. So, for everybody in Dallas, I'm here to introduce Dave McCormick.”After his video message aired, Fetterman released a statement to the press.“My remarks introduced Dave McCormick as a great American and friend. We are in different parties, but we are both Team PA. We have delivered hundreds of millions of dollars back to Pennsylvania, fought for improved transportation and affordable housing, and the Steel Way of Life. I’m a lifelong Democrat who votes overwhelmingly with my party and should the Senate flip in November, I will still be the 51st vote that I ran on.”Apart from his general disapproval of John Fetterman’s appearance at the Republican Midterm Convention, Stephen A Smith said that he got the Senator’s portrayal of himself as a “moderate” with “common sense”, but John didn’t have to appear in the opposition’s convention to deliver that message or shower the “Republican contemporary with praise.”Smith reminded Fetterman that Democrats voted him into the Senate in 2022 and he was acting differently than what he promised during his campaign, calling it a “bit excessive.” The NBA analyst further said that neither Trump nor McCormick would ever appear in a Democratic convention to return the favor to John.Stephen was not the only one who slammed Fetterman. Pennsylvania Representative Malcolm Kenyatta also expressed his disappointment about John and told The Guardian:“John Fetterman is the laziest Benedict Arnold America has ever seen. He didn’t even have it in him to get off his couch in his million-dollar penthouse to kiss Donald Trump’s ring in person. He phoned it in, just as he has every day as our senator. John should do his job or resign.”Sources close to John Fetterman recently suggested that he was seemingly avoiding constituent events and trying to gain a favor with conservative media. However, Fetterman has repeatedly refuted the rumor that he was planning to change political sides, although he recently claimed he would break ties with the Democratic Party if it ever became "the anti-Israel party."
