Donald Trump blamed Republican candidate Greg Abbott for losing the Texas gubernatorial race to Democratic opponent Gina Hinojosa in a Truth Social post late on November 3. The 80-year-old President wrote:

“If Greg Abbott, the Governor of Texas, hadn’t become a RINO in the last six months of his Political Life, he wouldn’t have lost. He went back to his original formula, and it wasn’t pretty!”

In another post, Trump blamed Abbott for saying “no” to data centers in Texas, claiming they were “bigger than oil.”

Democratic Texas politician and content creator Isaiah Martin shared a screenshot of Trump’s post on Threads and captioned it:

Meanwhile, Elon Musk has reportedly suspended Greg Abbott’s official X account, @GovAbbott, while his personal account @GregAbbott_TX is still available. Musk previously donated $5 million to Abbott’s campaign.

On Tuesday morning, Trump also endorsed Greg Abbott for re-election and called him an “exceptional Governor and man” and offered his “complete and total endorsement.” Earlier, the POTUS also praised Greg’s border security policies, tax cuts, and redistricting and called his opponent Hinojosa “reckless, radical, and dangerous.”

Exploring how Greg Abbott reacted to his defeat

Greg Abbott has not responded to Donald Trump’s Truth Social post. However, he delivered a concession speech late on Tuesday. He thanked his “incredible” campaign team and the “unbelievable” journey they embarked upon together. He also paid his gratitude to everyone who served with him in the Texas Governor’s Office for 12 years.

“After looking at the results of every county and the entire state, I made the decision to go ahead and call Gina Hinojosa and congratulate her on winning this race for governor for the state of Texas. There are still votes to be counted, but mathematically, we are not gonna be able to win this election,” Abbott stated.

According to The Associated Press, Hinojosa won with 52.76 percent of the votes, as opposed to Abbott’s 45.77 percent.

“I’ll let Gina know that I will assist her and her team in a period of transition. But I also want everybody to know that the thing I am most proud of is that you all helped me to be your governor for 12 years. Thank you very much. I love our state and it’s been an honor to serve it. And know that we are leaving Texas in far better shape than it’s ever been. Together, we have accomplished a lot,” Greg added.

The outgoing Texas Governor reminded everyone that the state was built by “bold” men and women who believed they could “transform a vast wilderness into a land of opportunity and prosperity.”

“We are the sons and daughters of the liberty they fought for. We believe in freedom over fear, God over government, and the bona fide greatness of this place, Texas. That will never change. The story of Texas is nearly 200 years old and one that will continue to be shaped by you and generations to come. Leading this state has been the greatest honor I have ever had. Thank you for your support and for making Texas great,” Greg Abbott stated.

Meanwhile, Gina Hinojosa said that Texas voters delivered a “mandate for change” and thanked Greg Abbott for serving the state for more than a decade.

“I have spoken to Governor Greg Abbott, who called to congratulate me and extended a generous offer to assist with the transition. I want to thank him and his family for their years of service to this state,” Hinojosa stated.

The lawyer and Texas Governor-elect added:

“Everything is bigger in Texas – and so is this win. Texas, we have shocked the world tonight. With a Texas chip on our shoulder, we showed that anything is possible. It never bothered me that they doubted me, that they doubted us. Hundreds of millions in attack ads, written off over and over again. Texas, my faith in you never wavered once.”

Gina Hinojosa said she was “humbled” and “grateful” for the victory and added it was not just a win for Democrats but the entire state.

“Let me be clear: we did not end one era of single-party rule just to usher in another. The same national pundits and political class who ignored and then misunderstood this campaign will declare this a victory for Democrats. They continue to misunderstand. This victory is so much bigger — it belongs to Texas,” she said in her winning remarks.

Gina Hinojosa, like all other Governors-elect, will take the oath of office in January 2027.
