Turning Point: Generation 9/11 director says tragedy has “direct line” to conspiracy culture, ICE brutality

The tragedy that struck on September 11, 2001, has become a turning point for the world, and Turning Point: Generation 9/11 is set to explore the gruesome details of the incident, making sure it can deliver how impactful the incident was. Even though several years have passed, the devastation that the planes caused on that day at the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon, and Pennsylvania remains etched in the minds of the people who have been affected by it.

A significant element of Turning Point: Generation 9/11 is to make sure that the storyline is able to “illustrate” the meaning of “terrorism” and how the incident left its impact through the decisions that were taken in the following years after it, which eventually became a transformational factor for the country.

While speaking about the formation of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and how it has affected the recent world, Knappenberger notes that the September 11, 2001, incident has created a “direct line” to the “violence” that ICE has been “perpetrating on the streets of America”.

The terrorist attack inflicted immense destruction and, in turn, created “fear” among the people for the “Muslim communities in America”. The “fear” became a dominating factor for the people, which the politicians have eventually “capitalized on” so that they can get elected and gain “power”. The violence that ICE inflicts is a direct result of the “shock of 9/11,” according to Knappenberger.

Hence, Turning Point: Generation 9/11 provides a perfect picture for the viewers, especially the younger generations, so that they can “answer” the questions “for themselves” about the choices that were made in the past. The documentary explores how the tragedy has directly impacted the younger generations. The documentary will also shed light on Laurel Homer’s life, who was just 10 months old when that incident took place.

As Laurel’s father was the co-pilot of United Flight 93, which crashed in Pennsylvania, she points out how she is “still struggling so much” as it has taken over her “whole life”. She has also faced difficulties as she often comes across people who claim that the incident was not a terrorist attack but an “inside job.” Director Knappenberger also adds in the interview how the tragedy “gave birth to the truther movement," where claims were made spreading “disinformation”.

He notes how the “disinformation campaigns” eventually affect the children who have lost their loved ones during the tragedy. Knappenberger understands how the children whose parents were directly affected by 9/11 and how it “changed their lives”.

The incident has “stayed with them through the evolution” that the country has navigated through. Turning Point: Generation 9/11 will be available for streaming on Netflix from September 2.
