Tyga defends use of AI on $tarface after Doja Cat calls him out

Doja Cat called out American rapper and singer Tyga for using AI in his latest music album, $tarface. This AI-generated concept album, inspired by the 1980s music, dropped on July 31, 2026. $tarface marks the 36-year-old rapper's ninth studio album and was released under his alter ego Starface. However, the album landed in controversy for the use of AI in the production process.

During a livestream on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, Doja Cat called out the Compton-born rapper for using AI. The Paint the Town hitmaker also made an NSFW comment about the rapper. Responding to Doja Cat's allegations, Tyga, during the TMZ Live session on Thursday, August 13, remarked,

"Listen, I love Doja, but she made a demonic album. But I still love her.”

Doja Cat on Tyga $tarface AI controversy

Tyga's new music album, $tarface, landed in controversy due to its usage of AI. Doja Cat, who previously collaborated with the thirty-six-year-old rapper on two hits, a 2019 remix of Juice and Freaky Deaky (2022), publicly criticized the $tarface album. During a livestream on Wednesday, August 12, she said,

"Nobody asked me anything about Tyga, but I felt like saying this. Tyga is a pe**s for making an AI album.”

This remark came after the hip hop star revealed the usage of AI to generate the 1980s-inspired music (synths and guitar), which is strikingly different from his usual tone. In an interview with VIBE, he clarified that the AI was used as a tool during music production to create a better experience and feeling. The rapper also defended the use of technology in music and called its usage similar to Autotune, he added

"It’s no different than when AutoTune came out. Some people were opposed to it, but real artists took it and used it.”

After Doja Cat publicly criticized the album, the $tarface rapper fired back during a TMZ Live, calling her latest album 'demonic'. Even though the rapper didn't name the album, Doja's latest album, Vie featuring SZA (guest appearance), dropped in September 2025.

Despite the criticism, the Rack City hitmaker made it clear that he holds no grudge against her, adding he still loves her despite her remarks. He eventually clarified that AI was used during the production and both the lyrics and vocals were original.

The Californian rapper further noted that he views AI as a part of evolving technology and is not worried about it replacing him. When asked whether he would use AI again for his album, he said that he isn't sure whether he would use it in the future and called $tarface an experimental project.

Speaking to VIBE, he defended his latest music album and addressed the backlash, stating

"At the end of the day, as a musician, I got 15 years of hits. On this $tarface project, we still created everything as a whole. I thought it was a great experience. $tarface could do whatever the fuck he wants to do. He’s on his own wave. He’s above it all. It’s a completely different thing."
