Unabomber: How a Harvard prodigy turned into one of USA's most feared domestic terrorist

Today Netflix disclosed the first preview images of its upcoming film, Unabomber. The world's largest streaming platform is preparing to unpack the chilling origin story of one of America's most infamous domestic terrorists, Ted Kaczynski, on September 25 this year. Russell Crowe, Jacob Tremblay, and Shailene Woodley are appearing as the main cast members in this R-rated film.

Viewers will witness how a 16-year-old Harvard genius transformed himself into the feared Unabomber. His life took a dark turn after he became part of a controversial psychological experiment led by Professor Henry Murray. Years later, FBI agent Joanne Miller tracks him back to his past at Harvard and finds out his real identity.

In this film, Jacom plays the role of Ted along with Russell as the professor and Shailene as the FBI agent. The film does not simply center on the bombings that shook the country for nearly 20 years. Instead, it takes a different storytelling path by weaving together two intersecting timelines that offer a more complex and layered view of the incidents.

Viewers will watch two parallel timelines simultaneously in Unabomber. Director Janus Metz has set the first timeline in the 1950s. During this period, the gifted mathematics student, Ted, studies at Harvard University. He is unknowingly utilized in tough psychological experiments funded by the CIA which later became part of the MK-Ultra program.

The second timeline jumps forward to the mid-199Os when the FBI begins searching for the elusive bomber. Investigators who are driven by mounting pressure trace back the terrorist while analyzing Kaczynski's documents from his Harvard years.

This moment acts as the turning point of the movie by linking Kaczynski's intellectual past to the violent campaign that had terrorized the nation.

Who was Ted Kaczynski?

One of the most formidable U.S. domestic terrorists, Ted Kaczynski was a brilliant student of mathematics. In 1969, he left his academic career and later in 1971, decided to live a peaceful life in the wilderness by constructing a small 10x14 wooden cabin in the remote area of Lincoln, Montana.

He lived there without electricity or running water. From that moment, he carried out a solitary campaign of terrorism and started attacking universities, airlines, and individuals connected to modern technology.
