On Tuesday, Donald Trump renamed artificial intelligence to “super intelligence” following a meeting with tech leaders. He announced it from the White House and later posted a document on Truth Social titled, “White House Accord on Super Intelligence.”

The document carried his signature but misspelled United States as “Unites States.”

“Donald J. Trump, President of the Unites States,” it read.

CNN anchor Jake Tapper highlighted the error on Threads and posted screenshots with the caption:

“Unites States?”

He also clarified that Trump’s “latest Truth Social post” was on “super intelligence.”

Former Congressman Justin Amash also tweeted about the misspelling, as did AI scholar and computer engineer Furkan Gozukara.

The White House has yet to address the misspelling.

All about Trump’s renaming of artificial intelligence

On Tuesday, Trump signed an executive order renaming AI to “super intelligence,” hours after he met with AI executives including Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Anthropic co-founder Dario Amodei, XAI owner Elon Musk, OpenAI President Greg Brockman, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and Nvidia CEO and President Jensen Huang, and signed a “morally binding” accord. All parties agreed to improve AI controls and internal audits.

The White House released the executive order that stated that the “extraordinary technologies far exceed” what was “envisioned when the term ‘Artificial Intelligence’ first came into use.” Additionally, it claimed that the name change was inspired by AI being capable of doing more than automate or imitate “discrete aspects of human intelligence.”

The executive order directs federal agencies and departments to henceforth use “super intelligence” or “SI” and that they would no longer “acknowledge the usage” of AI or artificial intelligence in “any applicable setting.”

Trump’s order gave a 60-day timeline to his tech advisor Michael Kratsios to consult with federal department heads to decide to what extent SI should “supersede the existing statutory definition” of AI.

The White House also released an additional fact sheet that stated:

“The name Super Intelligence conveys the true capabilities of the technologies being developed today, unlocking new forms of human creativity and empowering Americans to achieve what was previously impossible, not simply imitating or automating human intelligence as is implied by the term ‘Artificial Intelligence.’”

The fact sheet further claimed that Trump did away with the Biden administration’s overreach of “harmful SI policies.” Earlier in the day, the POTUS launched an AI chatbot called America.gov and teased that he would sign a “very powerful executive order” renaming AI to SI. He told reporters:

“When you say artificial intelligence, it’s artificial. This is extreme intelligence; it’s superior intelligence, it’s supreme intelligence. But the word super is the best word of all and it’s the simplest, so we’re going to be naming it SI, Super Intelligence. We don’t want to hear artificial intelligence cause it’s not artificial. It’s very powerful… It’s going to mostly be put to great use.”

Earlier this month, the U.S. President conducted a poll on Truth Social asking people whether AI is “inaccurate” and “ineloquent” and needed a name change.

“A far more elegant and accurate description of this new phenomenon would be Superior Intelligence (SI) or Extreme Intelligence (EI) or Supreme Intelligence (SI),” his post read.

According to Forbes, the poll received nearly 66,000 votes and “super intelligence” won. Another poll between “super intelligence” and “superior intelligence” also generated similar results. Trump also spoke about the potential renaming at the United Nations General Assembly, claimed the word “artificial” made it sound like “fake,” and welcomed everyone to a “new world of super intelligence.”
