Former Jackson State University defensive back Levi Wyatt Jr. died on July 31, 2026 in a vehicle crash in Jackson, Mississippi.According to Hinds County Coroner Jeremiah Howard, the accident occurred around 11:40 pm at the intersection of North State Street and Belhaven Street. Howard said that the 23 year old football player’s car left the roadway, overturned and hit a pole. Wyatt was pronounced dead following the incident. He was booked for a first-offense DUI at the Madison County Detention Center in Mississippi.Wyatt began his high school career at Vicksburg High School. He then played at Hillcrest Christian School and then at Holmes County Central High School, graduating in 2021. He primarily played quarterback and demonstrated versatility as a dual-threat athlete.At Holmes County Central, Wyatt completed 84 of 153 passes for 1,226 yards and 14 touchdowns. He transitioned from quarterback to defensive back at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.As a freshman in 2021, Levi Wyatt appeared in eight games and recorded 12 tackles, one tackle for loss and an interception. He also scored a touchdown on a fumble recovery in a 56–14 win at Holmes. He appeared in 4 games with 7 tackles and missed the final five games due to injury.In early 2026, Wyatt declared for the 2026 NFL Draft as well as the UFL and CFL drafts.
