The 8th film of the Paranormal Activity franchise is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 21, 2027. There was already a lot of curiosity around the film, and a new update about it has made fans even more excited. As Dread Central reported on X, Paranormal Activity 8 will be set in the house from the 2007 original film.Fans react to the news of Paranormal Activity 8 being set in the original houseThe first Paranormal Activity film followed fictionalized versions of actors Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat, who filmed themselves after Katie told Micah she's been afraid something evil has been following her since her childhood. The entire film is set in one house, and the story is told through the video camera that Micah set up in the bedroom. As Dread Central reports on X, it was revealed at the Blumhouse New York Comic Con panel that the upcoming film, Paranormal Activity 8, will be set in the same house as the original film. Many fans have commented on the X post, expressing how exciting the news is, because it means that the upcoming film will be as scary as the first one.One fan (@Ranz_135) commented:"We. Are. Ready."It is evident just how eager fans are to see the house from the original film again. While Katie was still alive at the end of the first film and was seen in the next films of the franchise, the house wasn't the setting for any of the other films. Thus, the story going back to the house means the same eeriness of the first film will return in the upcoming one. Another fan (@obssessedNikki) commented:"F**k I need to know more. I’m beyond being able to contain my excitement for this, huge huge huge Paranormal Activity fan. And despite not liking Undertone at all, it’s still my favorite horror movie series with or without Tuason."Ian Tuason is the writer and director of Paranormal Activity 8 and directed 2025's supernatural horror, Undertone. While the film was a box office success, many fans of the horror genre didn't find the film to be that good. As this fan of the franchise says, while they did not like Tuason's Undertone, they are excited to see what the director brings to the franchise. One fan (@awkwrdunicorn) commented:"Well now I'm extra excited! I loved the way undertone was shot."In contrast to the other X user, this user loved the way Undertone was shot and is thus excited to see Tuason's work in the upcoming film. Another fan (@lonestarsuprman) praised the franchise for choosing Tuason as director and for going back to the house from the original film. The fan wrote:"Undertone director is a good choice. Being able to search around the screen because you KNOW something is there is what made the first movie interesting to me and even though i didn't think Undertone needed to be a feature length movie, the background darkness was very well done."Thus, fans are hopeful that the same eeriness of the first film of the franchise will return in Paranormal Activity 8 now that the house from the first film has been confirmed to be the setting for the upcoming film. The story of the upcoming film is yet to be revealed, and thus we don't know if any of the characters will be connected to the original film's Katie and Micah. The upcoming film will star Chase Yi, Sonia Mena, Drew Nelson as Self, Maya da Costa, and Seled Calderon. The film is written and directed by Ian Tuason. Oren Peli, who wrote, directed, produced, photographed, and edited the 2007 Paranormal Activity, is one of the producers of the upcoming film. Other producers of the film are Jason Blum and James Wan. Blumhouse–Atomic Monster, Solana Films, and Room 101, Inc. are the production companies behind the film.
