Jay-Z celebrates the 30th anniversary of his debut album "Reasonable Doubt"

Jay-Z celebrated the 30th anniversary of his debut album, Reasonable Doubt, which was released in June 1998. It was launched through his record label Roc A Fella Records and distributed by Priority Records.

Reasonable Doubt marked the East Coast hip hop icon's entry into the music industry as a streetwise lyricist. The album has been produced primarily by DJ Premier, Clark Kent and others which featured collaborations with artists like Mary J. Blige.

In order to mark the occasion, he hosted an exclusive three day concert series called Jay-Z 30 at Yankee Stadium in New York. On opening night, Beyoncé joined the record producer onstage, singing Mary J. Blige’s part on Can’t Knock the Hustle. Their daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, performed piano on Feelin’ It moving Jay-Z emotionally. Other guests included Nas, Alicia Keys and more.

Night Two of the event centered on the 25th anniversary of the Roc Nation Founder’s album The Blueprint which was released in September 2001. It was his sixth studio album, which has been regarded as a hip hop masterpiece.

The performance featured tracks from The Blueprint such as Encore, Excuse Me Miss, Empire State of Mind, Big Pimpin', and more. The night featured collaborations from artists like Pharrell Williams, Eminem and Slick Rick among others.

The third night run concluded with the Extra Innings show on July 12 which encountered significant delays due to a security breach. Thousands of ticket holders were left stranded outside for hours after the gates were locked following a security breach. Fans voiced their concerns over potential injuries amid the crowd surge.

A user wrote:

“Long delays can quickly turn excitement into frustration. Hopefully, everyone stays safe and the show ends up being worth the wait for fans who came out.”

Some expressed anger toward venue security and event management for the handling of the situation. They demanded a refund for their tickets as they travelled from far to attend the show but didn’t get a chance.

A person remarked:

“I definitely need a full refund for my Jay-Z Extra innings tickets. Security closed the gates and stopped letting people into the stadium. I need a full refund. I flew all the way from California to New York and did not get in the stadium.”

Some praised the New York singer's patience and his professionalism despite the circumstances.

A person commented:

“Jay-Z waiting for every ticket holder to get in safely before starting? That’s real leadership right there. ‘They closed all the doors, somebody rushed the door…’ — better late than a tragedy. Extra Innings turned into Extra Patience, but the show went on. Respect, Hov.”

Another added:

“Jay-Z knows how to create moments. The delay only made the anticipation bigger.”

Beyond the New York dates, Jay-Z has announced additional 2026 shows in Los Angeles, London and Paris as part of the extended anniversary celebrations.
