Comedian, actor, filmmaker, and host Chris Rock sat down with The New York Times for “The Interview” segment and claimed he didn’t help a wrongly incarcerated man named Roger Logan with his legal fees despite growing up with him.

“A guy named Roger Logan, who I grew up with, he's one of my best friends’ brothers, went to jail for 19 years for a murder he didn't [commit]. His brother used to plead with me to pay for a lawyer for Roger and I never did it. I always had like a no lawyer thing because a lawyer is like an open-ended thing. Like I'll pay your mortgage. I'll put whatever. I always stay out of lawyers because… it still messes with me,” Rock, 61, stated.

The Grammy winner continued by saying that he had the “means” to help Logan but didn’t, adding he wasn’t sure if he could have got him out.

A Threads user called @jourdanstroman reacted to the anecdote by writing:

Several other social media users joined the conversation and shared similar reactions.

“Casually talking about how you let an innocent man rot in prison is crazy, especially one you knew,” an X user wrote.
“He could have kept that story to himself,” another user opined.
“Why would he think this is a good story to tell?” one person asked.

Others continued to weigh in.

“Yeah, I get it but he could’ve also used his power & or influence to speak out on the case and at least get a lawyer to take the case pro-bono,” an individual stated.
“It’s the closest friend part for me. That part is telling. You are not required to help someone you went to school with, but you can d**n sure help a close friend,” a netizen wrote.
“This don’t really surprise me about a guy who has allowed his own brother to convince himself it’s ok that he never put him in a movie or took him on tour with him,” another person commented.

During the interview, Chris Rock mentioned the whole point of sharing Roger Logan’s story.

"So, all that to say is I'm black. Black men get accused of things they didn't do all the time. White people believe every accusation is a conviction.”

Tony Rock previously accused Chris Rock of not including him in his tours and movies

In an August 2026 episode of the podcast Deep Meaningful Conversations, comedian-actor Tony Rock said that he never got the opportunity to perform with his older brother Chris Rock, and it is his dream to do so one day.

“I cannot wait for the day that he says, ‘Yo, let’s go on tour. Yo, we are going out to 30 cities.’ I cannot wait,” Tony said.

Before that, in June, the younger brother spoke about being open about his strained relationship with Chris during an appearance on Willie D Live Conversations.

“Much better now… You do realize you can have arguments with your siblings but that doesn’t change the love one bit. Like, we didn’t talk in a year…”

Tony explained that he defended Chris during the Will Smith Oscar incident because of the “love” he had, despite their past feuds.

Earlier, he claimed that he asked five favors from his older brother and he said “no to all of them” and he promised himself he would never ask Chris for anything else in his life. However, Tony Rock clarified that none of these favors was “serious,” and he was too young when he blamed Chris Rock in interviews.

“The media ran with it… People like to sensationalize and clickbait that Tony hates his brother."

In another past interview, Tony Rock claimed on The Green Room podcast that Chris Rock once told him that he would “put him” in his movie Top Five. When asked if he had to audition, Chris said he’d simply get a chance in the movie, which would be filmed in New York in the summer.

Tony Rock continued to explain that he was on his comedy tour and told his agency and management to be ready to “pause” it when Chris’ call came. But it never did. Instead, Tony heard from his industry friends who were working on the movie that it was in production. Months later, Tony allegedly got a call from Chris asking if he was coming to the wrap party. The experience left Tony “crushed.”

Chris never responded to his brother’s allegations publicly.

During the recent interview segment, Chris Rock said he was “good” with the 2022 Academy Awards slap incident involving Will Smith and added that it was “so long ago” and that he “moved on” with his life and wishes everyone well.
