Boosie Badazz is accused of using the image and name of Caleb Wilson, a student from Southern University who died back in February 2025, without the permission of his parents, for the promotion of the BoosieBash festival that was held in 2025. Badazz is also being accused of potential violations of the state's Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law, including false advertising and misleading consumers.As per Attorney Liz Murrill, while Boosie did ask permission from his parents to use the late student's name for setting up a scholarship called the Caleb Wilson Memorial Scholarship. However, the parents were not informed that the scholarship was tied to the festival and they did not give any permission for the usage of the name or likeness of their late son for festival purposes. Boosie also did not receive any permission from Southern University.Alongside the lack of consent for the usage of name or likeness for the promotion of the festival, the authorities are also saying there is a lack of details and clarity on whether the funds from the festival will be used for funding the scholarship, with Murill stating that the singer was misrepresenting things for profit. Murill stated to WBRZ:"No one ever asked them or even mentioned this event. No one ever asked them if they could use his name and image to promote this event."The attorney general continued:"Dramatic misrepresentation and misappropriation of Caleb's name and image to support a for-profit event without the consent of Caleb's parents."Boosie Badazz at present is not being charged for anything. The attorney general has asked a judge to respond to questions regarding the matter. Lester Duhé, spokesperson for the attorney general, revealed that the singer has not responded to what is called a civil investigative demand or CID. Murill stated the same to WBRZ:"We're just continuing our investigation and we're now seeking him to require him to respond. Boosie, alongside posting the above-quoted video, also made an appeal on the X post text itself, tagging civil rights attorney Ben Crump and stating that he needed help from powerful people to fight this.
