Emmy Rossum recently appeared on the Call Her Daddy podcast, where she opened up about her experiences on Shameless, which includes her fight for pay equity.
According to Celebrity Net Worth, the 39-year-old actress’ net worth has been estimated to be $12 million. This figure mostly comes from her role in Shameless which ran from 2011 to 2021. She starred in the Showtime series for the first nine seasons, portraying the role of Fiona Gallagher. Additional contributions come from her work in the entertainment industry.
Emmy noted that it made sense for her co-star William H. Macy (who played Frank Gallagher, the alcoholic father in the family) to earn more as he was more experienced with many credits. By season three, Emmy’s team saw the show’s direction as it shifted towards a stronger focus on her character. They then decided to push for better pay in contract talks for an extension, but they did not receive it.
What is Emmy Rossum’s net worth? Everything you need to know
Emmy Rossum had made multiple attempts to negotiate higher pay during Shameless contract extensions, but the most notable was the one which occurred ahead of Season 8.
In her recent Call Her Daddy review, Emmy explained:
“And then by season three, they approached us—we had a six-year contract—approached us to add another year. And I think my lawyers felt at that time that we had the receipts. We could see the way the story lines were shaping. We knew about fan engagement and we felt that it made sense to ask for that. We didn’t get it. And that’s fine. We thought, ‘We tried. We didn’t get it.’”
Ahead of Season 8, Emmy Rossum and her team tried again, but it was “shut down pretty fast.”
In an interview with the New York Daily News in 2018, she said that she never meant for her salary negotiations to make their way into the press and that it was “a very private thing” for a long time but eventually “leaked.”
The matter was resolved quickly with William H. Macy supporting her, saying:
“She works as hard as I do. She deserves everything.”

Emmy Rossum started her career as a child performer in opera and transitioned into acting before entering her teenage years. Born in 1986 in New York City, she auditioned for the Metropolitan Opera’s Children’s Chorus at Lincoln Center after her music teacher at school noticed her talent.
Over the next five years, Emmy performed in more than 20 operas and shared the stage with legends like Plácido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti and worked under director Franco Zeffirelli.
Between the ages of 10 and 12, Emmy Rossum became interested in acting. She took acting classes with coach Flo Salant Greenberg at The New Actors Workshop in New York. After dropping out of Manhattan's Spence School to pursue her career, Emmy landed a role as Abigail Williams on the daytime soap As the World Turns. She made a guest appearance in Law & Order.
She appeared in a Disney Channel movie, Genius and played a young Audrey Hepburn in the television movie The Audrey Hepburn Story. She made her feature film debut in Songcatcher, playing an Appalachian orphan. She also sang a duet with Dolly Parton on the film’s soundtrack for which she received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Debut Performance.
In 2003, Emmy Rossum landed her first major role in Clint Eastwood's film, Mystic River. She starred alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in The Day After Tomorrow and was seen in the screen adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera.
