She began by calling it a “weird form of state TV” and compared it to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s 24/7 state-run TV network KCTV.“You’re not being punked. This is real. It’s called Trump TV. And they repeatedly air Kim Jong Un’s remarks, again and again. That sort of a situation would be state television.”The White House Communications Director Steven Cheung responded to Erin Burnett's remarks in a statement to The Daily Beast. He called the journalist a “racist” and a “r****d.” Cheung, the son of Chinese immigrants, previously used similar slurs against U.S. Congress members, Senators, and journalists, including The Daily Beast’s Chief Content Officer Joanna Coles last month.A CNN spokesperson also released a statement to The Daily Beast about their employee:“Erin Burnett is an exceptional journalist who will continue to do what she has always done: ask tough questions, pursue the facts, and hold those in power accountable.”Exploring further Erin Burnett's comments about Trump TVOn Monday, the White House launched a round-the-clock streaming service called Trump TV via YouTube. It is available on Android and Apple devices. The announcement was captioned on X:“IT'S LIVE. TRUMP TV IS STREAMING NOW. 24/7, updated in real time, with top past moments, announcements, and the latest and greatest from the administration all in one place. Not every big moment has made it on your TV; now it can.”A follow-up message added:“Get real-time updates and live events streamed DIRECTLY to your phone. No noise. Just the news that matters most - straight from the Trump Administration.”Trump TV was launched amid the POTUS banning Politico, MS NOW, and CNN from the White House press pool and labeling them as “fake news” outlets. This prompted other U.S. media outlets, including CBS News, NBC News, ABC News, and Fox News Media, to suspend their White House coverage.“The public has a vital interest in receiving accurate, independent information about its government. No administration should restrict a news organization because it objects to its reporting,” they shared in a joint statement to TheWrap.During her critique of Trump TV, Erin Burnett drew attention to the disappointing viewership of Trump TV, calling it a “ratings disaster.”“So, after 24 hours, well, about 1,000 people are watching at last check... And maybe there’s a reason for that: the actual content. Trump TV has so far aired Trump’s inauguration, his new helipad dedication, which, by the way, because there was no pool, had no audio; his speech to the U.N.”According to several U.S. media reports, Trump TV pulled in a couple of thousand viewers following its launch on Monday, which quickly dropped below a thousand on Tuesday.Besides Erin Burnett, several other public figures condemned the launch of Trump TV, including California Governor Gavin Newsom, Senator Mark Kelly, and The Collider deputy editor Maggie Lovitt.
