Scary Movie 2 actor James Woods has been trending across social media ever since Amber Tamblyn’s 2017 allegations against him resurfaced earlier this week. But what prompted netizens to dig out the past accusations of “predatory” behavior in the first place? That would be Pastor Ben’s (@BenjaminPDixon) July 8 post:“So, James Woods is a p*dophile? That tracks.”It remains unclear what prompted him to make the post. But Pastor Ben later replied to a netizen:“It seems to be old news. I'm just catching up.”Amid this, several accounts recounted how Amber Tamblyn claimed in 2017 that when she was 16, James Woods offered her and her friend a trip to Las Vegas despite knowing they were underage.Woods, 79, has locked his X account in response to the backlash. It now shows the pop-up “These posts are protected” and “Only approved followers can see @RealJamesWoods’ posts. To request access, click follow.”Netizens are now mocking him for the same. For instance, science and tech influencer Eugene shared a screenshot of Woods’ account and wrote in the caption:“James Woods locked his account down. What is going on? Is the public finding out the truth about the dude, so now he is hiding?”Many joined the conversation and shared similar reactions.“James Woods locked his profile down... That already told me what I needed to know. Who's next...” a user wrote.“James Woods saw one fact-check coming up the driveway, locked the f**king gates, and put his safe space in witness protection,” another user mocked.“James Woods locked down his account when he was exposed as a predator. Gee, what were the odds?” an individual wrote.Others continued to chime in.“So, we really should be thankful that James Woods locked down his account,” a netizen opined.“Can’t handle the heat of being outed as a p*do,” another netizen claimed.“He's ALWAYS been like this - ask Amber Tamblyn,” one person opined.Mr Woods has yet to address the backlash or explain why he locked his account.Exploring, in brief, the James Woods scandalOver the years, James Woods has been known for dating younger women. He dated Ashley Madison, 19, before ending the romance seven years later and moving on with Kristen Bauguess, 20.Before that, he was married to costume designer Kathryn Morrison-Pahoa for three years despite a significant age gap. When he was 42, he married 26-year-old Sarah Cohen, a boutique owner and equestrian. It ended after four months. He also infamously dated his Diggstown co-star Heather Graham in 1992, who was 23 years younger. In September 2017, James tagged p*dophilia advocacy organization NAMBLA in his tweet and claimed the movie Call Me By Your Name “quietly chip away at the last barriers of decency.” The movie showed Armie Hammer in the role of a 24-year-old man in a relationship with a 17-year-old boy. This prompted Hammer to reply to Woods:“Didn’t you date a 19-year-old when you were 60…….?”Amber Tamblyn also joined the conversation with her own experience and pointed out James Woods’ hypocrisy. She tweeted that the senior actor “tried to pick me and my friend up at a restaurant once.” The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants alum continued:“He wanted to take us to Vegas. ‘I’m 16,’ I said. ‘Even better,’ he said.’”While Woods didn’t directly respond to Tamblyn, he denied the accusation and called it “a lie” while replying to another user. At the time, Amber warned James on X that it was “far from over” and posted screenshots of DMs with her friend corroborating their memory of the incident.Later that same month, Amber Tamblyn wrote a 600-word open letter to James Wood, published in Teen Vogue. Here are some of the excerpts from it:“Since you've now called me a liar, I will now call you a silencer. I see your gaslight and now will raise you a scorched earth.”Another one read:“You tried to make it sound innocent. This is something predatory men like to do, I've noticed. Make it sound innocent. Just a dollop of insinuation. Just a hair of persuasion. Just a pinch of suggestion… I told you my age, kindly and with no judgment or aggression. I told you my age because I thought you would be immediately horrified and take back your offer. You laughed and said, ‘Even better. We'll have so much fun, I promise.’”A third excerpt read:“I wasn't known then, James. I was just a girl. And I'm going to wager that there have been many girls who were just girls or women who were just women who you've done this to because you can get away with it.”Amber Tamblyn pointed out in the end that the plight of women was universal and they were tired of getting disbelieved over and over again. However, she hoped her account help Woods acknowledge within himself what he’d really done while coming to terms with:“The ominous unconscious stuff. The archetypal masculinity stuff. The power-play stuff. The perversion persuasion stuff. The secretive stuff. The id's most cherished stuff. Only you and your darkness know who you are. Only you and your actions know what you've done. That means you and only you have the power to change your behavior. Are you and your history with women and girls a part of the problem, Mr Woods?”Back then, Amber Tamblyn doubled down on her accusations in an op-ed published in The New York Times.“I told this story publicly as a way to back up the claim that Mr Woods was, indeed, a hypocrite. Mr Woods called my account a lie. What would I get out of accusing this person of such an action, almost 20 years after the fact? Notoriety, power or respect? I am more than confident with my quota of all three. Even then, why would I choose the guy from ‘Scary Movie 2’ to help my stature when I’m already married to the other guy from ‘Scary Movie 2’?”Tamblyn has been married to David Cross, who played Dwight on Scary Movie 2, since 2012. They have a daughter. In the same movie, Woods played Father McFeely.“The emotional cost alone of bringing up such memories publicly or coming forward with such recollections is pure bankruptcy. It is spiritual foreclosure. Mr Woods’s accusation that I was lying sent me back… to all the days I’ve spent in the offices of men; of feeling unsure, uneasy, questioned and disbelieved, no matter the conversation,” Tamblyn wrote. The General Hospital alum wrapped up:“Disbelief is not just about men disbelieving us. It is about our own disbelief in ourselves. I have been afraid of speaking out or asking things of men in positions of power for years… It is a famous man telling you that you are a liar for what you have remembered. For what you must have misremembered, unless you have proof.”Following Tamblyn’s revelations, actress Willa Holland’s mother, Darnell Gregorio-De Palma, tweeted that James Woods had s*xually harassed her daughter on the set of Straw Dog, when Willa was only 17 and Woods was playing her father’s character. A member of the crew, Jill Benson, backed Palma’s claim and said she witnessed James behaving inappropriately on the film’s set.Actress Elizabeth Perkins walked the Take Back the Workplace march during the #MeToo movement in L.A. At the time, she held a sign reading, “James Woods #MeToo.” Neither Perkins nor Woods ever addressed it further.
