Pierre Deny died after battling with ALS. It is not clear when the actor was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis( ALS). However, in their statement to the press, the actor's daughters did mention that Deny's case of ALS was severe and sudden. Pierre Deny was 69 at the time of his death. The actor died on May 25, 2026 and his death was confirmed by his daughters in a statement to APF, here quoted in translation via Variety's article on the matter. They said in the statement:"It is with deep emotion that we announce the passing of Pierre Deny, which occurred this Monday following a sudden and severe case of ALS."As per the Mayo Clinic, ALS is a nervous disease targets brain and spinal cord nerve cells, specifically the nerve cells called motor neurons which are responsible for allowing voluntary muscle movements. The disease targets both the upper motor neurons (extending from brain to spinal cord) and lower motor neurons (extending from spinal cord to other parts of the body) and causes detoriation in them. ALS is also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. It does not have a definite cause, though genetics does play a part in some cases of the disease. Complications from the disease can include dementia as well as trouble eating, speaking and breathing. So far, there is no cure for the disease. Pierre Deny's death was mourned by actress Sylvie Vartan as well as Luce Mouchel, with both expressing their sadness and condolences in Instagram posts. Sylvia Vartan stated in her tribute post, here quoted in translation via The Hollywood Reporter's article on the matter:"I have just learned with great sadness of the death of Pierre Deny. I shared some very good moments with him on stage in Isabelle Mergault's play. He was a generous actor and a sensitive and funny man.
