Her beautiful spirit touched so many lives and she will be deeply missed and forever loved. Rest peacefully, sweet Lauren. You will always be in our hearts. You GRLs, Em, Tash, and P.”Lauren Bennett’s death comes 12 years after Simone Battle died by suicide on September 5, 2014, aged 25. Four months later, Bennett told PEOPLE:“You can never prepare yourself for something like this, ever. We'd just been in rehearsals the day before, learning choreography for our show, and the next day we were starting the morning as usual when we got the call. I still can't believe it. I don't think any of us can. It's weird that we're even sitting here, talking about it.”Bennett is survived by a six-year-old daughter, Harlow, whom she shared with her ex, Kenn Wormald, who is an actor-dancer best known for Footloose. All about the circumstances surrounding Simone Battle’s deathOn a fateful Friday morning in 2014, Simone Battle took her own life by hanging inside the closet of her West Hollywood apartment in California. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office later ruled her death as suicide. In the aftermath, her close friends and family members told authorities that Simone was “depressed over money issues.” Family reportedly said Battle thought she would never “make it big” despite finding success with G.R.L., going on world tours, collaborating with Pitbull, and even performing on Good Morning America a month before her death.Back then, Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter told the press that Simone Battle was last seen by her boyfriend at 3:45 AM, less than four hours after her father, Anthony Battle, discovered her body. He, however, told law enforcement that his daughter never showed “any sign of depression” and that they exchanged texts/ calls every day.The grieving dad shared with Mail Online:“She will be greatly missed and loved. She was an exuberant person and a very loved person.”Lauren Bennett and other G.R.L. bandmates also mourned the loss, sharing in a statement:“Words cannot express the depth of our loss. Simone's incredible talent was only surpassed by the size of her heart. We will carry her memory with us in everything we do.”Simone’s record companies, Kemosabe Records and RCA Records, and management Reign Deer Entertainment issued a joint statement:“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Simone Battle of G.R.L. Simone was an exceptional young talent and human being, and we are all devastated to learn of her passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones at this time.”Nine months after Simone Battle’s untimely passing, G.R.L. officially disbanded. Before that, they dedicated their song, Lighthouse, to Simone’s memory.A year later, G.R.L. rebranded with Bennett and Slayton. Jazzy Mejia joined in as a new member, but eventually quit in 2020. Since then, all the original members have been pursuing solo careers.
