What are Jared Leto allegations? 2005 report of texting teens surfaces amid documentary bombshell

Oscar-winning actor-musician Jared Leto is facing s*xual misconduct allegations from multiple women from when they were teenagers and he was in his 30s and 40s. The alleged incidents date back from 2002 to 2016.

Ten women have come forward with accusations and spoken to the BBC for a documentary titled Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret. One of them, a Los Angeles-based DJ named Allie Teilz, first accused Leto, 54, of assault last year, claiming it happened when she was 17. Her social media post prompted others to come forward.

A woman said she was also 17 when she had non-consensual s*x with the Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman in California, which, according to the state’s law, is statutory r*pe. Jared Leto allegedly “shrugged off” when told the age of consent was 18 in the Golden State.

Another woman accused Leto of grooming and abusing his celebrity status by making repeated and explicit phone calls to her when she was 16 and suggesting they should have s*x. She subsequently received an NDA from the musician but refused to sign it. BBC has reviewed the same.

Amid the explosive allegations, a September 2005 New York Post article titled “Hey, ‘Leto’ Girl – Jared Shows He’s A Teen Play” has surfaced online. The article stated that Jared stayed at the Maritime Hotel in the Meatpacking District of New York and was “aggressively pursuing” many of the teenage models living there, including calling and texting them “several times a day.” Back then, a source told the outlet:

“He’s been approaching all the girls and inviting them to his shows. Girls from IMG, Elite, Next and Women are staying there, and Jared has been hitting on all of them. He’s a serial texter. He is constantly texting these 16- and 17-year-old girls. It’s really kind of creepy.”

Now, amid the release of the BBC documentary, Leto has denied the accusations. He shared in a statement via his representatives:

“I have never s*xually assaulted anyone in my entire life. These claims are absolutely and categorically false.”

Exploring further the accusations against Jared Leto

In the documentary, a woman accused Jared Leto of assaulting her in a “dingy, gross motel” bathroom when she was 17.

“Most of my life I had viewed this event as, I was a stupid girl… and so this bad thing happened,” she revealed.

Another one claimed that she was 19 when the Tron: Ares actor threatened to violate her when she was unexpectedly left alone with him in a hotel room. The woman also accused Jared’s female assistant of being complicit.

Four more women claimed they received “strange and often very s*xual phone calls” from Jared when they were teenagers. One of them said that when she was 14, Leto’s security escorted her backstage following a music festival where the singer allegedly made a “lewd” comment while signing autographs. When her mother confronted him, Jared seemingly repeated the comment.

“This was 25 years ago… he has gotten away with it… It really altered my life… There was nothing I could do about what happened to me," his alleged victim said.

Many of them also provided receipts, including messages and pictures of the incidents, alongside witness statements.

Two men who worked with Jared Leto in his band for decades also shared that it made everyone “uncomfortable” the way their frontman interacted with underage girls and invited them to the recording studio, his house, the dressing room, or backstage.

“I think everyone thought the age gap was way too big,” one of the men told the BBC.

Another former associate claimed that in the 2010s, when Thirty Seconds to Mars was touring globally, Jared Leto made a “direct request” to call local modelling agencies and offer female models VIP passes to his shows and afterparties.

This is not the first time such allegations have surfaced about Jared Leto. Nine women accused the Louisiana native of s*xual impropriety in a 2025 article published by Air Mail. He has “expressly denied” them.

Leto has faced these accusations over the decades, and the BBC series documented over 120 separate instances made online, including the 2005 report by the NY Post.
