Legendary English actor Sir Patrick Stewart died at his Los Angeles home on October 28. He was 86. His longtime publicist, Kelly Bush Novak, announced the death the following day.
“We announce with great sorrow the passing of Sir Patrick Stewart yesterday at his home in Los Angeles, in the loving care of his beloved wife Sunny, following a brief and poignant journey with Alzheimer’s Disease and Lewy Body Dementia,” a tribute on Sir Patrick’s Instagram account read.
Stewart will be best remembered for playing Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation. On the set of this sci-fi TV series, he had an affair with his co-star Jennifer Hetrick, who played Vash in the episodes “Captain’s Holiday” and “Qpid.”
Today, Jennifer Hetrick, 68, continues to be an actress, but has stepped away from mainstream projects. Instead, she works in community theater, pursues other artistic ventures, and spends time with her family, including daughter Lilly.
Sir Patrick Stewart wrote about his romance with Hetrick in his 2023 memoir, Making It So, adding that the affair ended his first marriage to Sheila Falconer.
“And so, another divorce. I felt stupid and responsible… I had cheated on my wife with a younger woman - again… And just like my affair with Jenny Hetrick, my time with Lisa Dillon would also prove to be relatively short … In a life chock-a-block with joy and success, my two failed marriages are my greatest regret,” he wrote in his book.
The affair with Lisa Dillon ended Sir Patrick Stewart’s second marriage to Hollywood producer Wendy Neuss. He and Lisa met during the production of The Master Builder and were together from 2003 to 2007.
Exploring Sir Patrick Stewart’s relationship with Jennifer Hetrick
In the early 1990s, Jennifer Hetrick appeared as Vash, an archaeologist and the love interest of Sir Patrick Stewart’s Captain Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation. However, the on-screen romance soon blossomed into an off-screen relationship.
While Sir Patrick offered no details about his affair with Hetrick in Making It So, beyond noting that it coincided with his first marriage, his stuntman John Nowak went on record to claim that Stewart and Hetrick were engaged when they were filming “Qpid.” Neither actor ever confirmed Nowak’s claim.
However, one thing is certain: the pair didn’t tie the knot.
Sir Patrick Stewart was married three times. His first marriage to Sheila Falconer lasted from 1966 to 1990. They had two children, Sophie and Daniel.
He married Wendy Neuss in 2000, but the marriage ended in 2003. Five years later, Stewart began dating singer-songwriter Sunny Ozell, whom he met during a Brooklyn Academy of Music production of Macbeth. They got engaged in August 2012 and walked down the aisle in 2013.
Not much is known about Jennifer Hetrick's personal life, except that she has a daughter named Lilly.
Hetrick continued to appear in several guest roles, including reappearing as Vash on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode “Q-Less” in 1993. Her other credits include the TV shows The Young Riders, L.A. Law, Bodies of Evidence, Profiler, Sliders, General Hospital, Alias, Prison Break, Criminal Minds, NCIS, and the X-Files episode “Avatar.”
Some of the movies she appeared in include 500 Days of Summer, And Then There Was One, and Absolute Strangers. Her final role was in the 2018 episode of the CBS medical drama Code Black. Since then, she has been seen in local theater productions and TV commercials, including an ad for Prolia in 2018 with Blythe Danner.
Sir Patrick Stewart is survived by his wife Sunny Ozell, his son Daniel, and daughter Sophie.
