All we know about the life of Lil Tecca

Lil Tecca was recently in Paris when the news of his hospitalization alarmed his fans. In addition to attending the Paris Fashion Week, the rapper also had a low-key performance at Cova Club on January 23.

In the posts circulating online, Tecca was seen wearing a white tee over shimmery silver snakeskin pants. He wore an off-white shawl over his shoulders. He was seen moving confidently as he walked around with his entourage.

Tecca was born in August 2002 and hails from the vibrant streets of New York City, where he grew up before moving to Long Island. He is of Jamaican heritage, which also influenced his music. He ventured into the rapping industry after roasting his friend on Xbox Live while playing a game of Call of Duty. In an interview with Complex, the 23-year-old musician said:

“I was like, “Yo, I'm done with this. I'm finna just record myself flaming you,” because we would just always go back and forth through the Xbox.”

He further shared in the interview that he downloaded Audacity and started recording himself over the beat. He then started uploading his songs to SoundCloud and gradually developed a fanbase.

Lil Tecca released his debut project, We Love You Tecca in August 2019. He dropped hits such as Love Me and Did It Again, both of which helped build the hype leading into his debut mixtape. He gained stardom at the age of sixteen with his 2019 smash hit Ransom. The song soared to number four on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and solidified Tecca’s place in the music industry.

Before embarking on his musical career, Lil Tecca aspired to become an NBA basketball player. Reports stated that during his childhood, he developed a passion for the sport and spent countless summers playing at local parks such as Springfield Park, dedicating much of his early youth to honing his skills on the court.

In a 2019 interview with Billboard, Tecca shared that despite his initial interest in basketball, he later realised it was not for him. He said:

“I was truly, truly trying to go to the league. I love basketball a lot. But honestly, eventually I realized I couldn’t see myself waking up every day to do it. I like doing it to have fun, you feel me? I can’t see myself having to wake up early, like 6 a.m., to go to practice for it every day. I really love basketball, but the things that come with it? I can’t do it. It’s also not simply that I didn’t want to put the work in, it just wasn’t the path for me.”

As of now, he appears to be in a period of recovery after he reportedly sustained injuries in a scuffle in Paris.
