Selena Gomez clone theory is a conspiracy theory that claims that the publicly visible singer currently going about her day is not the real Gomez, but in fact a clone that has replaced the original. The theory claims that the real Gomez died in 2017 and was replaced by the clone to maintain and protect the multi-million dollar industry built by the real singer.

The theory came about after the singer shared a series of throwback photos recently on her Instagram page, with the posted images leading to conspiracy theorists noting the differences in her facial features over the years. These differences started the above-mentioned conspiracy theory, first gaining traction on TikTok before taking over other social media platforms.

Those who support the theory are using changes in her behavior and speech patterns after 2017, when Gomez had her health struggles, including a kidney transplant, to back up the claim.

There is also the claim that Justin Bieber's angel tattoo on his left wrist is a memorial to the singer, his ex, with theorists suggesting that the tattoo is evidence that he was let in on the alleged conspiracy to replace the singer with a clone.

Not only that, but the theorists have also tied their claims to alleged screenshots from the Epstein files. According to the alleged screenshot, the email purportedly contains a line reading, “decided about Selena.” While it is unclear who the person in question is, the line has reportedly fueled the conspiracy theory.

This alleged email screenshot is being used by supporters of the clone theory that Selena Gomez was abused by Epstein and his co-perpetrators and that she was disappeared because she knew too much about Epstein.

Selena Gomez clone conspiracy theory remains unproven, countered by netizens

However, the theory remains completely unproven and is mere speculation. Many netizens have pointed out that the changes in behaviour and speech patterns can be simply explained by the singer growing old:

Selena Gomez has been transparent about the changes in her facial appearance, with the singer admitting to using Botox in 2024, while dismissing the claim that she had other cosmetic changes:

"Honestly I hate this. I was on stripes because of flare up(s). I have Botox. That’s it. Leave me alone."

Furthermore, regarding her speech patterns and so on, her struggle with an autoimmune disease, lupus, can explain the changes to her voice. As per Healthline, lupus can cause changes in voice due to inflammation in the lungs, vocal cords, and other muscles.

Severe lupus, the condition experienced by the singer, required her to get a kidney transplant, which can cause chronic voice change conditions. Medical and voice therapies can help with said inflammations, but their efficacy varies due to a number of factors.

Voice and speech changes can also be due to several other non-lupus-related factors, including the loss of elasticity of vocal muscles due to aging in the 30s, as per Biological Insights. Hormonal factors may also play a role in the changing of voice and speech patterns.

Selena Gomez has not responded to this viral TikTok clone theory as of the writing of this article.

Fans have speculated about Selena Gomez's facial appearance in the past

Selena Gomez has been seen with different facial looks over the years, and these have all triggered speculation of some kind. There has speculation that the singer was using Botox and fillers.

In 2025, the latest speculation suggested that the singer had a jaw implant done to alter her facial appearance, as well as speculation that she had procedures such as canthoplasty and blepharoplasty done.

All of these speculations have remained unconfirmed to date, aside from the one time the singer clarified that she had gotten some Botox done back in 2024.
