Selma Blair has detailed her personal and professional fallout from her 2024 social media backlash during an event at the Jewish Museum in New York.

Speaking on October 1, 2026, at the Anti-Defamation League reception at the Jewish Museum in New York City, she explained that after her 2024 anti-Islam comment, she lost multiple professional relationships and personal support. She described the feeling as being “erased” from society and decided to channel it into a documentary.

According to a report in The Hollywood Reporter, in February 2024, Selma Blair made a now-deleted comment on Instagram, under a post by immigration reform advocate Abraham Hamra, criticizing U.S. Representatives Rashida Tlaib and Cori Bush. Her remark was widely slammed as Islamophobic. The comment read:

“Deport all these terrorist supporting goons. Islam has destroyed Muslim countries and then they come here and destroyed minds. They know they are liars. Twisted justifications. May they meet their fate.”

Selma Blair recalls her 2024 fallout during Anti-Defamation League reception

Selma Blair has recalled her 2024 fallout at the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) State of the Arts reception at the Jewish Museum in New York City.

The Cruel Intentions star described the rapid collapse of the support system she had built over the years. This included her brands and partnership deals; her talent agency (CAA); a manager of 30 years; a lawyer; a publicist; a book agent; a book publicist; and a social media manager.

Additionally, her personal relationships were also affected, including her son’s godmother, whom she described as her best friend. Blair is a mother to a son named Arthur Saint Bleick. Born in 2011, he is 15. She co-parents him with her ex-partner and fashion designer, Jason Bleick.

Although Blair later deleted her controversial 2024 Instagram statement and published an apology, she still stands by it. In her speech, she quipped:

“I meant it then and I mean it now, and I’m leaving the comment there, because the comment was not the story.”

Blair has consistently described the original wording as a mistake in which she “mistakenly and inadvertently conflated Muslims with Radical Islamists and fundamentalists,” expressing deep regret for the hurt caused.

As reported by Deadline, the Legally Blonde actor continued to speak about her forthcoming project:

“Two years ago I learned what erased feels like, and I’ve decided the opposite of erased is making something. So I’m making a film. The last time I let cameras in, it was about my body. This time it’s about my people. It’s a documentary about antisemitism, and as confounding and confusing as it seems to be because no one wants to talk about geopolitics but it seems to get intermingled completely, but I wanted to make this made for the people who are not in this room.”

Describing more about her upcoming documentary entitled Hineni (Hebrew for "Here I am"), Selma Blair said:

“The thing I couldn’t say two years ago, I’m now saying with a camera crew behind me. It goes to Israel, so people can see why that land is not an abstraction to us. And it talks to people who disagree with me, on camera, and keeps the disagreement in the cut, because you don’t change a mind by only talking to people who already agree with you.”

The new documentary is being made in contrast to Selma Blair’s previous documentary, Introducing Selma Blair, which focused on her body and multiple sclerosis.
