Freedom Williams left the C+C Music Factory in 1994 to pursue a career, with Martha Wash entering the group as a vocalist around the same time after the settlement of her lawsuit with Sony Music Entertainment. Freedom Williams subsequently bought the legal rights to the C+C Music Factory trademark in 2003, and currently runs the group's Instagram page.Williams performed under the name C+C Music Factory later on. This was commented upon by Robert Clivillés, the co-founder of the C+C Group, who stated in an interview with About.Com in 2005 while talking about people performing under the name of C+C Music Factory:"What bothers me, what bothers me about it is the quality of what they’re showing out there and saying they’re C&C Music Factory. Freedom Williams is performing on the C&C Music Factory and that’s part of the biggest insult in the world -"The singer continued:"-because when we did the first album and sold six million records and all those panties and bras were being thrown in his face, he was cool with going solo."More recently, Robert Clivillés and Freedom Williams have clashed over the Freedom 250 concert series at the Great American State Fair. C+C Music Factory was announced as one of the acts of the lineup. In a response to the controversy surrounding the Freedom 250 concert and its link to Donald Trump, Freedom Williams posted a long, expletive ridden rant in which defended his participation in the concert, he said while he did not agree with his Trump, he was not going to let anyone else tell him what to do.Robert Clivillés subsequently launched a separate C+C Music Factory Instagram page, and subsequently alleged that Williams misused the name of C+C Music Factory, which stands for Clivillés and Cole (after the late co-founder of the group David Cole):"PLEASE be aware that Freedom Williams has done his best to misuse our name - C&C Music Factory which actually stands for: Cliviles & Cole Music Factory. Freedom Williams in all honesty should not be using it to tour or represent what this group stands for in any way without permission, if he was a man of honor and truth he would honestly stop"Complex @ComplexLINKC+C Music Factory Founder Threatens Lawsuit Against Rapper Freedom Williams for Using Group's Name Details: https://complex.com/music/a/alex-ocho/c-c-music-factory-founder-threatens-lawsuit?utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter_complex&utm_campaign=ap_twitterRobert Clivillés threatens lawsuit against Freedom WilliamsRobert Clivillés has now publicly threatened a lawsuit against Williams.
