Noah Schnapp came out in January 2023. The actor, before telling the world publicly about his sexuality, told a number of people who were on his list, which included his family and his Stranger Things co-star and best friend, Millie Bobby Brown.

In an Instagram story, uploaded on April 1, Schnapp uploaded a photo taken from the back featuring him with his boyfriend. In the caption, he wrote:

"One month of us ❤️"

The photo was taken on a rooftop with Noah and his boyfriend looking at the city. As of now, the actor has not revealed the name or the face of his boyfriend, keeping the details private. The caption also suggests that the two started dating around early March.

Noah Schnapp came out publicly in January 2023 through a TikTok video with text that read:

"When I finally told my friends and family I was gay after being scared and in the closet for 18 years and all they said was ‘we know."

Talking about how he revealed the news to Millie Bobby Brown, he told Variety in a statement:

"I just FaceTimed her one day in the middle of a Party City and I was like, ‘Millie, I’m gay.’ And she was like, ‘Oh, Schnapper! You told me finally!"

However, in last year's interview with Time while promoting the final season of Stranger Things, the actor shared that he felt nervous about answering the journalist's question about it. After Stranger Things premiered, many journalists questioned his character, Will, and whether he is attracted to boys in the series.

Talking about the same to Time, Noah Schnapp said:

"When I was younger, I was obviously very scared of talking about it. They would pry and ask me, ‘Is he gay? Are you gay?’ I was 12, 13. I didn’t know what to say."

In his public message on a TikTok video, he wrote in the caption that he is more similar to his Stranger Things character Will than he thought. In an interview with Variety after he came out publicly, he further talked about how his character Will helped him by saying:

"Once I did fully embrace that Will was gay, it was just an exponential speed towards accepting it for myself. I would be in a completely different place if I didn’t have Will to portray, and to embrace and help me accept myself. I think if I never played that character, I probably would still be closeted."

Social media has been filled with messages of support for the actor after his relationship reveal.
