Shia LaBeouf was spotted partying in Mardi Gras after he was reportedly released from jail on February 17.

According to a report in Page Six, he was arrested in the predawn hours of the same day in New Orleans during Mardi Gras celebrations after an alleged physical altercation outside a bar in the French Quarter. Mardi Gras is the French word for “Fat Tuesday,” which falls before Ash Wednesday, marking the start of Lent, 40 days of fasting, prayer, and reflection leading up to Easter.

The 39-year-old actor faced two counts of simple battery for reportedly assaulting two men and was taken to the hospital for unknown injuries. He was then taken into custody. Reports described LaBeouf as intoxicated, aggressive, and shirtless at times while visiting the bars in the Uptown and French Quarter areas.

Details explored as Shia LaBeouf parties in Mardi Gras

Shia LaBeouf, who has publicly discussed his sobriety in recent years, arrived in New Orleans and reportedly went on an extended bar crawl in the city’s Uptown neighbourhood starting around February 12, 2026.

According to a report in The Hollywood Reporter, the actor was staying at a luxury Airbnb in the area and visited several establishments along Magazine Street and nearby parade routes. He was first spotted at Ms Mae’s without a shirt or any cash. Ms Mae’s doorman, Robert Skuse, described him in an “inebriated” state.

Witnesses reported to the outlet that later on the evening of February 12, they saw Shia LaBeouf at Dos Jefes cigar bar. He was also spotted at 45 Tchoup, Brothers III Lounge, among other hot spots. At these spots, he was initially described as “totally chill” and “so nice.” 45 Tchoup co-owner Deb Shatz said:

“Yeah he was here, and he was totally chill. He came twice: the weekend before last and then Friday. He dipped his card but left without signing, so we added a 20 percent gratuity.”

He reported posing for photos with revelers. He was louder than others in conversations and also gave an impromptu acting lesson to a woman at a bar.

However, he later appeared intoxicated as one of the bartenders summed up his multi-day antics as “terrorizing the city.” He reportedly demanded credit despite cash-only rules, causing disruptions.

On February 17, he was ejected from R Bar, on the edge of the French Quarter, when he got involved in a brawl with two men, leading to his arrest. He was released from custody later that morning on his own recognizance and quickly returned to the parade routes.

Shia LaBeouf has been candid about his journey to sobriety and has previously credited three Hollywood stars for stepping in to support him in getting back on track. In a May 2025 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he spoke about his close friendship with Mel Gibson. He said:

“Big respect, big love. He’s always been very lovely to me. He held my hand when I was really s---ing on myself. Dude really stepped up for me in big ways.”

He then named Sean Penn and James Brolin for standing up for him and keeping him “alive” through their motivation.
