Nicholas Brendon’s sudden death has brought attention to his medical history of cardiac issues. He reportedly died of natural causes, as informed by his family members to outlets such as TMZ and others.

At the time of his passing, his family shared a statement which read:

“While it’s no secret that Nicholas had struggles in the past, he was on medications and treatment to manage his diagnosis and he was optimistic about the future at the time of his passing.”

According to the reports, Nicholas Brendon suffered a heart attack in 2022 and revealed in 2023 that he had been diagnosed with a congenital heart defect. His sister shared the images in a now-deleted post on Brendon’s official Instagram. It showed the actor getting medical attention. The post read:

“Nicky sends his love and wanted me to apologize that he hasn’t been going live as much lately and to give everyone an update. Nicky is doing fine now but he had to be rushed to emergency about two weeks ago because of a cardiac incident (tachycardia/arrhythmia).”

He also suffered from cauda equina syndrome, a medical emergency that affects the bundle of nerves at the base of your spine, according to Cleveland Clinic. It causes back pain, weakness and incontinence and requires surgical treatment.

In 2021, he suffered a serious spinal injury after a fall, his manager, Theresa Fortier told the Los Angeles Times. He underwent a second spinal surgery in October 2021. Fortier informed us that his spinal cord was punctured and there was a cerebrospinal fluid leak, which resulted in tachycardia.

Brendon had an identical twin brother named Kelly Donovan. They were born on April 12, 1971 three minutes apart in Los Angeles. Kelly is also involved in the entertainment industry. He reportedly appeared as a stand-in and double for Brendon on shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and in several episodes of Intervention and The Replacement.
