American mixed martial artist Anthony Smith was arrested on Monday night and booked into Sarpy County Jail in Nebraska after a warrant was issued. He is facing three felony charges, including domestic violence causing serious bodily harm, terroristic threats, and false imprisonment, according to jail records obtained by the New York Post.Smith, 38, has yet to appear before a judge and remains behind bars without bond. They have four daughters and live in Omaha, Nebraska. She played volleyball while attending Lutheran Liberal Arts University in Fremont. Today, she is a professional nurse.Before tying the knot seven years ago at Stonebridge Christian Church in Omaha, Mikhala and Anthony Smith were in a long-term relationship. In fact, their firstborn, Ariah, arrived in 2011, followed by Avaya in 2014 and Adley Joy in 2017. A fourth daughter was born in 2022.The last time Anthony Smith and his family were in the news was in April 2020 when he fought a home intruder in front of his wife, kids, and mother-in-law. In a subsequent interview, the MMA fighter told ESPN that the moment was “terrifying” and it was “one of the toughest fights” of his life.On the fateful night, Smith woke up to a “man’s voice screaming at the top of his lungs” in his computer room. As he rose to his feet, he came face to face with a violent stranger. The father of four explained:“I didn’t know what he had. Typically, people don’t break into your house in the middle of the night for any good reason. I’m expecting to hear a gunshot or he’s gonna stab me. Like he’s got something. I figure I’ve got about two minutes before whatever he’s got takes me out.”Smith continued:“No normal human is able to fight like that. I’m by no means the baddest dude on the planet, but he’s a regular Joe and I had a hard time dealing with him. He took everything that I gave him – every punch, every knee, every elbow. He took every single one of them and kept fighting me.”Speaking with ESPN, the Corpus Christi native shared:“I went into that fight ready to die. Nobody smart breaks into a house in the middle of the night unarmed… when they break in at night, it’s to hurt people. You always just think you’re such a badass. I just don’t feel like one. I feel… insufficient a little bit. I didn’t know it was possible to be that terrified.”So, Anthony didn’t think much and struggled with the man before the cops arrived a few minutes later. By then, the lightweight champion was able to contain the threat by holding a kitchen knife to the intruder. The man was later identified as Luke Habermann, 21, an ex-high school wrestler.Authorities later revealed Habermann broke into Anthony Smith’s home through an open garage door. Before that, he was chased away from a neighboring house and had tried to break into other properties.Anthony Smith had a 17-year MMA career and retired last year after his knockout defeat to Mingyang during UFC Fight Night. In April 2026, he made a cameo for Jorge Masvidal’s Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA. Elsewhere, he has been serving as an UFC analyst on Paramount+.
