Welsh singer-songwriter Bonnie Tyler, whose real name was Gaynor Hopkins Sullivan, died in Faro, Portugal, on July 8, two months after undergoing emergency surgery to treat a perforated intestine. She was 75.Less than an hour ago, the death was announced on her Facebook page:“Bonnie's family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for. We will issue a further statement shortly, but for now ask for privacy to deal with this tragedy.”Bonnie Tyler had been married to British judoka turned property developer Robert Sullivan since July 1973. They had no children.According to The Guardian, the Total Eclipse of the Heart songstress underwent the intestinal surgery in May, following which she was put into an induced coma to help with recovery. A couple of attempts to bring Bonnie Tyler out of the coma led to cardiac arrests, following which she was resuscitated.On June 15, it was announced via Facebook that the singer was out of the coma but remained “very unwell.”“We are pleased to share that Bonnie is no longer in a coma, but remains very unwell and in intensive care in hospital in Portugal.
