Who was Deanne Lane? Longtime KSDK anchor and 'Night Beat' reporter dies at 65

Deanne Lane, an Emmy-winning anchor at KSDK TV in St. Louis, Missouri, has passed away. She was 65. According to reports, she died on Friday at Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur. Deanne is survived by her husband, Chris Pappas, and her son, Griffin Goodrich, from a previous relationship with Gregory Goodrich.

The late anchor joined KSDK in 1993 and made a name for herself as the station’s ‘Night Beat’ reporter. Deanne Lane covered major national and local news events, including the Columbine shooting, the Oklahoma City bombing, Hurricane Katrina, the Missouri Miracle, and the Kirkwood City Hall shooting. She spent close to 27 years with KSDK, earning her an Emmy Award. Lane also cemented her reputation as a good journalist after she conducted an in-depth report on homelessness, living on the streets for 5 days to document the issue firsthand.


Tributes pour in following Deanne Lane’s passing

Veteran reporter and anchor Deanne Lane, a familiar face in St. Louis television news, died on Friday at Mercy Hospital at age 65. According to St. Louis Media History, she was very active in community service, volunteering several times for the St. Louis Area Food Bank, the Red Cross, the St. Louis Effort for AIDS, and the Special Olympics.

Alicia Elsner, General Manager of KSDK, recognized Deanne Lane’s impact on the station. She wrote:

“Deanne Lane was a beloved member of our KSDK family who brought truth, compassion, and integrity to every story she told. She didn't just report the news—she made a difference in the lives of those she covered and those who watched her.”

Adding:

“While we are heartbroken by her loss, we celebrate her remarkable 20+ year career and a life well-lived in service to others.”

Sports Director Frank Cusumano also wrote:

“Deanne helped to build KSDK. She was the daughter of a legendary broadcaster and she became a legendary broadcaster. She had the right dose of energy, poise and confidence.”

Adding:

“The bigger the story, the better she was. She was passionate about her work and was really wonderful to be around. I can't ever remember being around her when she wasn't a lot of fun.”

Lane left KSDK in 2009 after more than 25 years at the station.
