Who is Harry Enten? Trump calls CNN analyst his favorite journalist at the network

President Donald Trump has shown his favoritism towards CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten in a Truth Social post, calling him the “best person” on the network.

Enten previously worked as a Senior Writer and Analyst for CNN Politics. He is also the host of the Margins of Error podcast which specializes in number-driven political journalism.

He took to his Truth Social account on August 29, and wrote a post largely targeting CNN labelling it a “DEATH SPIRAL” with no viewers. He wrote:

“CNN is in a DEATH SPIRAL, and so is MSNOW, the new name for MSDNC — Literally, nobody is watching either Network!”

He then singled out Enten for praise and wrote that Enten is the “best person” at the network since he presented poll data showing Trump is the U.S. president. He is also most admired by the Republicans. Trump added that Enten has credibility and asked CNN not to fire him.

Born on March 1, 1988, Harry Enten is a journalist and data analyst currently employed by CNN as chief data analyst.

He was raised in a Jewish family in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx, New York City. His father, Harold Enten, was a supervising judge of the Bronx Criminal Court and a former chief of the Supreme Court Bureau of the Bronx District Attorney's Office. His mother, Dr Barbara E. Strassberg, is a paediatrician.

Harry Enten is a well-known diehard Buffalo Bills fan and an active social media personality. As a young kid, he was interested in gym and recess, but as he grew, Enten fell in love with history and political science. His father introduced him to politics by taking him to polling booths when he was a young child.

In an interview with Dartmouth, Harry Enten spoke on what makes politics intriguing for him and said:

“the idea of trying to figure out who’s going to win and who’s going to lose, that has been the case for a long time, and so to me the horserace is the most interesting part.”

Harry Enten attended Riverdale Country School and graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Dartmouth College with a degree in government. When Enten was a student at Dartmouth, he started his Margin of Error blog in 2009. He continued managing his blog even after graduating from the college.

Enten’s vlog helped to launch his journalism career as it was noticed by The Guardian. They hired him for the U.S. Election coverage. It eventually inspired the name of Enten’s CNN podcast, Margin of Error with Harry Enten. It first premiered on September 21, 2021.

Enten interned at NBC News’s political unit in Washington, D.C. and at Pollster.com, and contributed to Taegan Goddard’s Political Wire. He joined FiveThirtyEight as a Senior Political Writer. At this place, Enten was known as the ‘Whiz Kid’ for his sharp political analysis. According to his Dartmouth interview, Jody Avirgan gave him this name and acknowledged that his age played a major role in it. He told the outlet:

“if you’re calling me from that institution which I attended, you know that I only graduated five years ago, so I think my age certainly plays a large part in that. But I’d also argue that it sounds kind of funny because to hear my voice without knowing what my face looks like, most people tend to think I’m significantly older than I am.”

In February 2018, he moved to CNN as a senior political writer and analyst for CNN Politics, and in 2025, he was promoted to his current position as chief data analyst.
