Kyle Shanahan’s family transferred from Minneapolis to California when Kyle’s father, Mike, was an offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers. They relocated to Colorado when he landed the head coach position for the Denver Broncos. Kyle’s mother is Peggy Shanahan. She met his father while they were both students at Eastern Illinois University.

Kyle Shanahan met his wife, Mandy, in the late 1990s while attending Cherry Creek High School in the Denver area. After dating during their college years, the couple went their separate ways before reconnecting again a few years later. It happened when Mandy’s mother, Nancy O’Donnell, was diagnosed with stage 4 gallbladder cancer and eventually died in 2002.

When Kyle Shanahan came to know about the ordeal, he flew from his college in Texas to Colorado and supported Mandy during the difficult time. It showed them each other’s true character and brought them closer.

Mandy was born in January 1980 as Amanda O'Donnell and is a private entrepreneur. She maintains a private life. She is supportive of her husband’s career and has become a dedicated 49ers fan. Kyle is a year older than his wife.

Kyle and Mandy welcomed their first child, Stella in 2007. They became parents for the second time in 2008, when their son, Carter was born. Their youngest child is their daughter, Lexi, born in 2012.
