According to reports, officers responded to 203 Elmer Avenue around 3 a.m. after receiving reports of a child who was not breathing. The child was pronounced dead at the scene. Police also found a 3-year-old child at the house, who has since been transferred to the custody of relatives. Robert Buskey Jr. was charged with second-degree manslaughter and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

More details on Robert Buskey Jr.’s case

Robert Buskey Jr. pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and criminal sale of a controlled substance. The former MMA fighter from Schenectady had locked his five-year-old daughter in a room so he could play video games and use drugs, leading to her death. Charlotte’s body was emaciated and severely dehydrated, with an autopsy revealing she had no food in her body when she was discovered.

After an extensive investigation, it was revealed that Charlotte and her then 3-year-old brother were cut off from the outside world and had no contact with friends or family. They also did not receive medical care and did not go to school. It also appeared that Charlotte had little contact with the rest of the house, as a lock found outside her room suggested she was mostly locked in. The five-year-old was also denied a bed and slept in a Pack ‘n Play.

“That’s where Charlotte spent her final days, abandoned and locked in her room by her father. She had no food, no water, no contact with anyone, in a Pack ‘n Play, left there to die,” Robert Carney, Schenectady County District Attorney, said in a statement.

Robert Buskey Jr. will be sentenced to 27 years to life in prison. Christina Tremante-Pelham, chief of the Schenectady County District Attorney’s Office Homicide Bureau, said in a statement:

“The resolution in this case rightfully gives this defendant the maximum punishment allowed by law for the murder of his daughter. And it spares the members of the Schenectady Police Department, the Schenectady Fire Department, and the District Attorney’s Office from having to relive the horror of what they saw in that home and the condition of this little girl who suffered such a horrific death at the hands of her father.”
