Who is Shane Keough? All about Jeana Keough’s son

Reality TV star turned California realtor Jeana Keough has been diagnosed with tongue cancer. Her daughter, Kara Keough Bosworth, 37, launched a GoFundMe to fund her mother’s ongoing treatment.

“A few months ago, while visiting Shane and me in Florida, my mom mentioned a painful spot on her tongue. She assumed a tooth had been rubbing against it and had even gone to the dentist multiple times to have the tooth filed down. I asked her how long the sore had been there. She paused, thought about it, and realized it had been nearly a year. A biopsy confirmed our worst fear: squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue,” Kara wrote.

Kara, who has been married to NFL star Kyle Bosworth since February 2014, is the only daughter of Jeana, 70. She also has two sons, Shane and Colton. The former is an entrepreneur, former actor, and ex-baseball player.

The fundraiser has a goal of $50,000. As of writing, it has raised $41,515 from 342 donations. According to the description, Jeana Keough has undergone multiple surgeries:

“After surgery to remove the cancer, we were hopeful that the hardest part was behind her. But when doctors recommended a second surgery to remove lymph nodes, they discovered the cancer had spread. What we thought would be a one-time surgery became a full cancer battle. Jeana is now in her fifth week of chemotherapy, radiation, and immunotherapy. The treatments are relentless.”

Kara Bosworth mentioned that the funds would help cover her mother’s medical expenses, everyday living costs, nutrition, and other additional support amid her ongoing cancer battle.

Jeana Keough’s first marriage to Gary Tomasino ended in a divorce. She remarried late MLB pitcher Matt Keough in 1984. Shane, 39, is their eldest child, followed by Kara and Colton. The couple separated in the 1990s. However, the legal separation happened in 2004, followed by a divorce in 2019, a few months before Matt’s May 2020 demise from a pulmonary embolism at age 64.

Shane Keough began his career as an outfielder for Cane County Cougars, an MiLB (Minor League Baseball) team, before being drafted by the Stockton Ports, a Class A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics, in mid-2006. He was let go in 2010.

Before that, he appeared as a “jock with a foul mouth and bad attitude” on her mother’s Bravo reality TV show, The Real Housewives of Orange County. Back then, Shane was an 18-year-old high school senior. In a May 2021 interview with The Guardian, he noted:

“I was a punk who thought he was cool. I came from a family of actors and athletes and had yet to be humbled by real life.”

As part of RHOC, his mother planned to watch him play for the Cougars one day. However, he ended up being on the substitute bench. While he urged Jeana Keough not to attend the game, the producers reportedly pressured her. In the end, when his mom tried to talk to him, he walked away and said, “Get the f**k away from me.”

The producers reportedly included him swearing at his mother in the upcoming episode without providing full context. As a result, Shane received death threats and many fans threatened to cancel season tickets.

“That probably led to a shorter baseball career. Two years after that incident, I was done,” he told the outlet.

In fact, to this day, Jeana Keough’s son faces backlash if he posts about his mother on social media.

“They say: ‘You’re a terrible person, you should be ashamed of how you treated her.’ People assume that I treated my mother terribly my whole life. But that’s not the case. Have you never said anything disrespectful out of rage to your parents? I never blamed them, because that was who they were prior to me being born. My mom was an actress and my dad was an athlete.”

In a 2009 interview with the Los Angeles Times, Jeana Keough explained that she quit the show after six seasons to protect her children.

“The kids enjoyed it the first few years. And then it got to be tough on them. With editing… you can hit a home run and it will show you striking out.”

Between 2013 and 2015, Jeana Keough’s older son also acted in projects including Capital Games, Naked Dragon, and Spare Change.

Speaking with The Guardian five years ago, he also noted the impact reality television had on his life.

“With reality TV, a whole life gets boiled down to a few milliseconds. That might be enough to ruin your life, or spark it into something amazing. I learned from the show. I am happy with who I am. I believe I am a good person and I mean well.”

However, now, Shane Keough is more “aware of the perspective of other people” while speaking to them. However, he is not “calculated” in what he says or does.

“Without that awful moment of regret, I don’t think I’d be where I am now. It grew me into a person that I am, and am proud to be.”

Today, Jeana Keough’s son is a Florida-based realtor. He is the founder and owner of WeGoFor2 and Compass. Shane is also married to a woman named Franceska and has two daughters.

In the GoFundMe description, Kara Bosworth shared the current condition of her ailing mom.

“She is exhausted, struggling to stay awake, and becoming malnourished because the pain in her tongue and throat makes swallowing even the smallest bites or sips incredibly difficult. Every day is a battle just to get enough nutrition and hydration to continue treatment.”

The daughter continued:

“On top of the physical toll, she has been unable to work. Because her job is commission-based, the loss of income has created an enormous financial burden at the very time she needs to focus all of her energy on healing.”

Jeana Keough’s little girl explained that living across the country in Florida with young children made it difficult for her and her brothers to feel “painfully helpless,” especially when there were no direct flights as everyday affairs became more and more “overwhelming” with each passing day.

“Now that I'm here in Orange County and seeing firsthand what she's facing, I realize even more how much support she needs—not just while I'm here, but after I return home. My brothers and I want to help make sure Mom feels cared for, loved, and supported throughout this fight,” Kara noted.

Elsewhere, in a joint Instagram post with Shane, she also praised Jeana Keough’s kindness, strength, and fighting spirits.

Just like Shane, his mother is also a realtor based in California. In addition to her stint on RHOC, Jeana Keough also made money as a video vixen appearing on several ZZ Top music videos. The actress-model was Playmate of the Month in the November 1980 issue of Playboy Magazine.
