On July 28, country music singer-actor Trace Adkins appeared on the podcast This Past Weekend with Theo Von and recalled the three-decade-old incident where his second wife, Julie Curtis, shot him during an argument, leaving him with near-fatal injuries.“She took it a little far, I thought. That was uncalled for. That was totally uncalled for. Just leave. Let’s just call it quits and we don’t have to go that far,” Adkins, 64, stated. The Dreamin’ Out Loud artist explained that he did not press charges as he thought Curtis didn’t mean to shoot him and had no idea what “that gun was gonna do.” He continued:“I’d never seen her hold a gun. I’d never seen her shoot a gun. I knew she had one, but I’d never seen her use it. I don’t think she knew what was about to happen when she pulled that trigger. She thought it was a toy. She thought I was indestructible.”Trace Adkins has been married once before Julie Curtis and twice after her. His first wife was Barbara Lewis and his third wife was Rhonda Forlaw. He is currently married to Canadian actress, fitness model, and author Victoria Pratt.Adkins recalled that the 1994 domestic dispute with Julie Curtis was a result of his alcoholism. She was “mad” with Trace and asked him to leave, which he refused. During their heated verbal exchange, things went out of hand when she drew her .38-calibre revolver under his left arm. He tried to disarm her, but she pulled the trigger during the struggle. The bullet went “straight through” his heart and lungs and came out under his right arm.The musician was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, and underwent emergency open-heart surgery.“It was a kill shot. And the doctor said the only reason I survived was because the bullet went through at point-blank velocity, at muzzle velocity, so it didn’t have time to mushroom. If it hadn’t been for that Life Flight and Vanderbilt Medical Center, I wouldn’t be here,” Trace Adkins told Theo Von.The incident resulted in the end of his second marriage and the divorce was finalized later that same year. He has since forgiven Julie Curtis, who died in 2021, aged 59.All about Trace Adkins’ four wives Trace Adkins was in his early 20s when he married his high school sweetheart Barbara Lewis. In a September 2022 interview with PEOPLE, Adkins noted:“It wasn't my time to go. It was painful, but it didn't sear my memory. The physical pain — broken bones and surgeries and bullets and getting beat up and cut — has never really bothered me. I have a high tolerance for it. It's the broken hearts that left the deepest scars.” View this post on Instagram Instagram PostTrace Adkins tied the knot with Rhonda Forlaw in 1997. They share three daughters: Mackenzie, 28, Brianna, 25, and Trinity, 21. The musician further credited his five daughters and third wife for staging an intervention about his excessive drinking in 2021:“I had a moment of clarity. I know it sounds simple, but I just went, ‘Wow, I've got the world by the balls. All I got to do is stay sober.’”By 2014, Adkins’ third marriage was towards the end and he entered rehab the second time after an altercation with an impersonator on the Norwegian Pearl cruise. However, since then he has maintained sobriety and no longer feels the urge to drink:“I've made mistakes, and I've paid for them. I try not to make those mistakes anymore.”Trace Adkins and Rhonda Forlaw had an amicable divorce on the grounds of “irreconcilable differences” and remained co-parents, while she had the primary custody of their daughters. Back in 2014, their spokesperson shared they were “united in ensuring that their children’s interests come first” and that Forlaw was seeking child support.Trace Adkins crossed paths with Victoria Pratt, now aged 55, on the sets of their 2013 movie The Virginian. Plus, I do a lot of physical work at home. I feel great. It's been a wild ride and I'm fortunate to still be here,” Trace said back then.A year before that, the Lincoln Lawyer actor told the same publication:“I can't even begin to explain what a difference she's made in my life. She rejuvenated me and inspired me to take whatever time I have left and make the most of it... and then just make the best music that I can make.”Pratt is best known for appearing in the television projects Day Break (2006) and Mutant X (2001-2004) as well as films like Legacy (1998) and Desperate Riders (2022).
