On July 4, Reddit user @Educational-Ant6770 took to the subreddit @r/triangle and accused True Iron Will of being a N*zi band affiliated with the National Socialist Black Metal Scene. Furthermore, the user called out the coffee shop Chapel of Bones in Raleigh, North Carolina, for including the Texas-based metal band in its upcoming show lineup.True Iron Bill comprises leader, guitarist, and composer Hellbitch Kommando, vocalist and bassist Cody Combs, and drummer and backup vocalist Victor Ziolkowski. The now-viral Reddit post titled “Fascist/N*zi Band Booked to Play at Chapel of Bones” wrote under the subreddit:“Chapel of Bones is a metal venue in Raleigh. In August, they’ve listed a show featuring the band True Iron Will… For those unfamiliar with metal, there is a subgenre called Black Metal, which this band plays. Within black metal, there is a large fascist and N*zi subcurrent called NSBM (national socialist black metal), and many bands that don’t explicitly play NSBM are still loosely affiliated with it, sympathize with it, and so on.”The post not only shades the band’s seemingly controversial music but also their individual members for reportedly practising N*zism in real life. The Redditor then added:“I emailed the venue to express concerns about this nearly three weeks ago and have received no response. By my lights, no band like this should be given a place and a platform in our community.”Chapel of Bones accused of having True Iron Will in their upcoming show lineup. (Image via Reddit)In the wake of the callout, Chapel of Bones general manager and senior talent buyer Dante, aka @BoneDaddy666666, has directly addressed the True Iron Will booking allegations. Here’s what he wrote:“First, this show was booked by an outside promoter, not directly by me or the venue. Given the promoter's own background, these allegations were genuinely surprising to hear.”Dante further explained:“Regarding the claim that an email was sent three weeks ago, can you let me know which email address you sent it to? I searched every Chapel of Bones inbox we have access to and couldn't find anything remotely related to this. If it was sent and we didn't respond, then we simply never received it. We did receive a message on social media this morning and responded promptly.”The Chapel of Bones employee confirmed that, after looking into the allegations, he has determined the concerns are “legitimate” and has already contacted the promoter to take “appropriate action.”Chapel of Bones general manager replies to True Iron Will accusations. (Image via Reddit)All you need to know about True Iron Will membersAccording to Encyclopedia Metallum, True Iron Will was founded in Austin, Texas, by Hellbitch Kommando as a black metal band. It explores themes like war, battle, honor, victory, and evil. The band is currently signed with Nuclear War Now! Productions.A self-titled album came out in 2022 under the Signal Rex label, followed by a full-length sophomore project, Spirit of Steel, in 2025. The latter stirred controversy for the songs “As the Blood Flag Waves” based on N*zi Blutfahne and “Voice of Vinland” for its far-right material and promoting the “golden” Aryan past of White Americans.According to the Black Metalist Krieg website, Spirit of Steel presents itself as:“A work indebted to the proto-black metal of the late '80s, with plenty of flirtations with thrash and more traditional heavy metal, although the foundation is still raw and aggressive black metal, with plenty of blast beats and tremolo riffs.”“Total Honor” and “Violent Satanism” are some of the more popular songs from the 8-track album. As for the frontman Hellbitch Kommando, he was born and raised in Texas. His solo projects include Demo 2019, Demo 2021, and Demos With Heffner. He is also involved with the two-piece heavy metal band Merciless Savagery with drummer C.C. Bonebreaker. It was founded in Houston, TX, in 2018.Last October, Kommando sat down with Filthy Dogs of Metal and shared:“My main influences at the moment are Inquisition and Imprecation.”Victor Ziolkowski, with his brother David, Cody Combs, and guitarist Alex Recide are also part of the Austin-based hardcore metal band Skeleton. In July 2018, then-26-year-old Victor told The Austin Chronicle:“All we want out of music is the hardest, the darkest, the scariest, or most mysterious. “When I go to a show, I wanna be scared. And I wanna hear something heavy.”Formed in 2014, Skeleton is known for songs like “Torture” and “Your Choice” among others.Kommando himself also runs another band called Lost Hierarchy, which makes alleged N*zi music such as “Victory Sun” under the Winter Solace Productions record label. The True Iron Will frontman has been accused of wearing N*zi brands and promoting merchandize over the years.According to the Chapel of Bones general manager, they host hundreds of bands every year between their own shows and “outside promoter rentals” and True Iron Will was reportedly in the second category, which is why they weren’t aware of the alleged scandals.“While we absolutely try to be mindful of who plays our venue, the reality is that it's incredibly difficult to thoroughly vet every single artist to make sure they're not pieces of sh*t before a show is announced. That's not an excuse; it's simply the reality of operating a busy venue,” Dante claimed. He also mentioned how genuinely he appreciated True Iron Will’s history being brought to his attention and was grateful to the community for being willing to speak up when “something like these slips through the cracks.”“We'd much rather know about it and address it than unknowingly provide a platform to people whose values don't align with ours or the community we've worked hard to build. I completely understand why people were concerned, and after looking into it myself, I understand those concerns as well. But I'd also ask that people not assume our intent. This wasn't an endorsement. It was something we were unaware of, and as soon as it was brought to our attention, we investigated it and are taking action,” Dante stated. View this post on Instagram Instagram PostHe further urged the sender to check if the email was really sent weeks ago and, if not, to send/ forward it again. Dante assured everyone he wanted to understand how he and his team missed this email and that it never happened again.Subsequently, Dante uploaded screenshots of Chapel of Bones’ email folder and showed the Reddit user’s original email landed in the spam folder, making the coffee place unaware of it and not issuing a reply. On July 7, Chapel of Bones released an update via Facebook citing that True Iron Will was taken down from next month’s Abyssmal Lord show lineup.“After reviewing the information that was provided, we requested that True Iron Will be removed from the lineup. We made it clear that if they were not removed, we would cancel the event, refund all ticket holders, and return the promoter's deposit,” the statement read.Chapel of Bones gave a shoutout to the promoter.“From the moment these concerns were raised, they were cooperative, took the matter seriously, and worked with us to resolve it quickly. Given the promoter's own background as an immigrant, and the fact that we don't spend our time studying N*zi ideology, symbolism, or coded language, there simply wasn't an obvious reason for us to suspect there was an issue before it was brought to our attention. Once credible information was presented and verified, we acted immediately.”The Facebook post revealed that anyone who purchased a ticket to specifically watch True Iron Will perform will receive a “full refund.” The coffee shop apologized for the ads that already includes True Iron Will’s name, stating the artwork and name was included before the matter was brought to their attention. While they were working to “clean it up,” it might take time to update/ remove them from multiple platforms.“Finally, we'd like to reiterate where Chapel of Bones stands: there is absolutely no place for N*zism, fascism, or any ideology rooted in hate at our venue. If that's what you're looking for, Chapel of Bones isn't the place for you. Thank you for holding us accountable and for continuing to support Chapel of Bones.”True Iron Will has yet to respond.
