Michael Jackson’s new documentary, titled Michael Jackson: The Verdict, which features his attorney Brian Oxman, has been released on Netflix. The three-episode docuseries dissects the Beat It singer’s 2005 criminal trial, in which he was accused of child molestation.

Oxman’s disbarment has resurfaced in discussions on social media due to his role as an interviewee in the documentary. He appears as a Jackson family attorney and provides commentary, including claims about Jackson’s instructions during the trial.

Oxman was disbarred in July 2012 for dishonest and unethical conduct which involved mismanagement of his client’s funds. The disbarment stemmed from multiple ethical violations unrelated to his work for Michael Jackson or his family.

The State Bar of California said that he mixed his personal funds with client’s trust account funds to shield personal assets from creditors. The court found this to amount to moral turpitude. He didn't advise the State Bar after being fined by a judge and failed to cooperate with disciplinary investigations.

All we know about Brian Oxman as “Michael Jackson: The Verdict” premieres on Netflix

Brian Oxman has gained renewed attention after he appeared as Michael Jackson’s attorney on Michael Jackson: The Verdict, released on June 3.

His full name is Rickey Brian Oxman and he is a former California defense attorney best known for his association with the Jackson family.

Oxman was admitted to the California State Bar in 1976 after graduating from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. He has practiced law for 29 years, as HuffPost says. He was appointed as a professor of Law at Irvine University and worked as a radio talk show host on AM 830. He acted as an adviser to Former Governor Jerry Brown.

He previously hosted The Brian Oxman Show, a radio program covering politics, sports, entertainment and current affairs. As of now, Oxman continues to grant interviews and appears in the media discussing Michael Jackson-related topics. He remains active as a commentator rather than a practicing attorney after being disbarred by the State Bar of California since 2012.

Oxman has made numerous television appearances on programs such as Good Morning America, Nancy Grace, and Larry King Live. On the personal front, Oxman has tied the knot with Maureen Patricia Jaroscak. Maureen is also an attorney. No reports show whether they have children or not.

Michael Jackson: The Verdict re-examines the 2005 child molestation trial, which was held in Santa Barbara County, California, in which Jackson was acquitted on all the charges. The series includes interviews with prosecutors, defense figures, and journalists who covered the trial at that time.

Many fans and observers have criticized Oxman’s inclusion in the new Netflix documentary, noting that he was not a central figure in the 2005 trial as he reportedly parted ways with the team before its conclusion. Others argued for featuring Oxman over lead defense attorney Thomas Mesereau.

They have also pointed to credibility issues stemming from Briam Oxman’s 2012 disbarment in California. However, a portion of the audience appreciated Oxman’s assertions in the documentary that Garvin Arvizo’s family was financially motivated and that his support for Michael Jackson was.
