Why is Mark Cuban under fire online? Shark Tank billionaire called out over “crashing out” on Threads

Billionaire entrepreneur-investor Mark Cuban is under fire after he spent the weekend confronting Threads users who seemingly disagreed with him on his political shift, business tactics, and more.

This came after Cuban, 68, appeared on the Pivot podcast and told hosts Scott Galloway and Kara Swisher that if he were running in the 2028 presidential election, it would be as a Republican, despite being a longtime Democratic supporter who endorsed Kamala Harris in the 2024 election.

The Dallas Mavericks owner explained that he couldn’t win as a Democrat because of their leftward viewpoints and groups like the DSA. Mark, who recently endorsed Texas Democrat James Talarico, said his potential switch was based on voters wanting different things following the Tea Party era.

In the same interview, he also praised the POTUS’s prescription drug website TrumpRx for seemingly lowering the prices of certain medicines. For those unaware, Mark Cuban’s company Cost Plus Drug has been in a partnership with TrumpRx since May.

Threads users who called out Cuban for his podcast remarks faced his wrath on Saturday night. In one post, he said he “expected to get sh*t” after collaborating with Trump’s company but also received emails from patients who found out about Cost Plus Drugs and were “finally able to afford their medications.”

“I get them every day. I have people walk up to me crying and thanking me. I'm good with getting sh*t on social media knowing we continue to help more and more people afford their medications. If you would rather see someone get sicker or worse, that's on you,” he wrote in response to a user who asked why he was “confused” after aligning himself with Trump despite being “smart”.

When another netizen wrote that Mark Cuban would be “out of touch” as long as he remained a billionaire and the backlash he was getting had “nothing” to do with his political affiliation, Cuban replied:

“So always judge someone by their bank account? I was broke for a long, long time. I like being rich better.”

In another post, a user called Cuban a “right-wing grifter idiot” and said that young people didn’t like him, to which the business magnate responded:

“Congrats on winning the King of the Young People Grifter Idiot Identification Squad!”

Cuban wrapped up his crash-out on Threads by writing:

“That's all, folks. Hope everyone has an amazing Saturday night! Appreciate all the engagement, trolling and trolling!”

In the midst of this, Threads users are continuing to criticize/mock the Shark Tank alum.

“Omg I can't believe I missed Mark Cuban's crashout,” an individual wrote.

“Mark Cuban throwing a little baby tantrum because everyone isn't kissing his billionaire a** is hilarious to me. Alllll the money in the land and you still want to be validated by the peasants. Aww lol,” another individual added.

“Mark Cuban is crashing out on people calling him out for turning into a right-wing grifter,” a fellow user commented.

“I liked your Shark Tank character better,” one person weighed in.

Exploring Mark Cuban’s recent partnership with Donald Trump

Mark Cuban co-founded subsidized online pharmacy Cost Plus Drugs in 2022. Earlier this year in May, his company joined the U.S. President’s affordable medication initiative, aka TrumpRx, in a “special partnership” along with GoodRX and Amazon.

The collaboration aimed to expand the online marketplace by making 600+ generic drugs available at low cost. The decision came as a shock to many, as Cuban is a longtime and vocal critic of Trump.

In fact, Mark once called Donald an “idiot” with “fascist tendencies.” Not only that, but Cuban said Trump is the “most unethical, dishonest person” he has ever done business with.

In response, the real estate mogul turned politician called his fellow billionaire a “loser” and “weak and pathetic,” and that he made a “big mistake” by endorsing Harris-Walz in 2024.

Three months ago, the Pittsburgh native said he was the “biggest proponent” of TrumpRx and smiled behind Trump as they laid out the alliance. The duo also shook hands, marking a stepping stone in their otherwise contentious relationship.

Mark Cuban also responded to backlash, writing on social media that whoever thought he was going to put “politics ahead of helping Americans reduce their cost of healthcare and pharmaceuticals” was a “f**king idiot.”

“The goal is the goal. And that goal is to change healthcare. I've been saying it for years and will continue to work on this… As our volumes go up, our costs go down, which means we'll be ending up charging less to people over a period of time,” he said of the partnership.

In his August conversation with Kara Swisher, who praised the collaboration and called it “smart,” Cuban explained how it works:

“Yeah, it’s really simple; they refer traffic. It’s just, you know, a portal that people can go to, look up prices for 600 drugs. You go to TrumpRX.com, you put in the name of the medication, and if they have it, it comes up. And if we’re the cheapest, it refers you to us. We’ve seen our volumes increase, our sales increase. And the good news about that is, Republicans want cheaper drugs, Independents want cheaper drugs, Democrats… so, it’s a win.”

Claiming that there was “no downside” to the partnership, Mark disregarded a question about Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act and continued to shower praises on Trump.

“I think he’s done a great job on IVF. Meaning, if you’re trying to build a family, and you need the fertility drugs, they were really expensive. And he negotiated lower prices. Give him credit for that… You know, love him or hate him, I’m certainly not going to say anything that’s going to change anyone’s mind and I’m not going to try. But at the same time, give him credit where credit is due.”

Mark Cuban also claimed that there was no difference between the two TDS: Trump Derangement Syndrome and Trump Devotion Syndrome, and he tried to “ignore” both sides.

As for Trump, he said in a White House conference that Cuban has a “good company” and would do a “lot of business with us,” adding he has always had a “lot of respect for Mark.” The POTUS also said the one thing in “common” between him and Mark Cuban was they want to “make people better” and “keep them wealthy.”
