The internet is filled with theories and rumors about Avengers: Doomsday, as only two months remain until the movie's release date. Fans have come up with a new theory in the wake of the World Series Game 1 preview. It suggests a reunion for Thor and Loki as the Multiverse is collapsing. Thus, it would make sense for the two brothers to collaborate to stop Doom.

This new theory suggests that Loki is in Steve Rogers' disguise to help the Avengers. Apart from Thor, Hulk, and Valkyrie, no one knows that Loki has turned good or trusts him. Moreover, Thor, Banner, and Valkyrie also believe that Loki is dead. It won't be until Avengers: Doomsday that Thor will be aware that Loki is alive or that he is the God of Stories.

Avengers: Doomsday's Loki theory explained:

We already know that Tom Hiddleston is a part of Doomsday's staggering cast. In the MCU continuity, Loki is still mostly considered the being who invaded New York, an event that played out in 2012's The Avengers. People still don't trust Loki, and that includes some of the Avengers.

By the time Avengers: Doomsday arrives, Steve Rogers would also trust Loki due to the conclusion of Avengers Endgame: Encore. If you remember, Encore ended with an extension of the original ending, i.e., Steve and Peggy dancing. Loki interrupts the dancing couple and offers them help. This help would have softened Steve toward Loki, and thus, the real Rogers might permit Loki to impersonate him.

As for the moment indicating that the Steve Rogers we see in the new preview is Loki, it arrives at its end when Steve asks Thor if his holding Mjölnir bothered the God of Thunder. Thor responds that Steve holding Mjölnir does bother him, and Rogers gives him a smile that's very similar to the one Loki gave previously, prompting the theory. However, there is one thing that disproves this fan theory.

In the Avengers: Doomsday preview, Steve Rogers is shown holding Mjölnir.

Apart from Odin, Thor, Hela, Jane, and Vision, the only MCU character we have seen holding Mjölnir is Steve Rogers. While Rogers could have always been worthy to hold Thor's hammer, it wasn't until 2019's Avengers: Endgame that we saw Rogers hold Mjölnir during the Battle of Earth. Now, we can see Steve Rogers holding the magical hammer, something we haven't seen Loki doing.

Therefore, it is likely that the Steve Rogers we see in the preview is indeed the real one. However, that doesn't mean that Loki will not be a hero in Avengers: Doomsday. Tom Hiddleston sat down for an interview with Nerd Reactor a few days ago, in which he described the movie as a "new starting point" for Loki:

"And at the end of 'Loki' Season 2, he realizes that the kind of god... He can use his power as a demigod for a greater purpose; the whole journey of Loki has been an exploration of purpose and meaning."

Hiddleston further continued:

"The beginning of 'Avengers,' he says 'I am Loki of Asgard, and I am burdened with glorious purpose,' and his purpose is... exist for others and that he is going to use that purpose that it will be more burden than glory so that I arrived in 'Doomsday' with all of that experience, with that story having been told and it now creates a new starting point."

Leaks have even suggested that we will see Loki die in the movie at Doom's hands, much like the God of Mischief was brutally murdered by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. If this is indeed the case, it would make sense for Marvel to reunite the two brothers one last time.
